Welcome to the weekly Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold list, where we take a quick and fun look at what’s hot and what’s not in the worlds of sports and sports cards over the last week.

The Hot List

Shohei Ohtani

Ohtani was already in rare company with three MVP awards, but by winning his fourth unanimously, he moved into a class nearly all his own. Only Barry Bonds ever won more MVP awards in his career (seven), and it’s not out of the question to think Ohtani could catch up after winning a third straight honor. With 55 home runs, an electric arm from the mound, and another World Series ring from the 2025 season, Ohtani’s stock has continued to rise in the collecting universe.

2025 Topps Update Baseball

For baseball card collectors, a player’s flagship Topps rookie card is often a must-have. So, when the Update Series gave collectors their first flagship look at dozens of rookies, the packs and boxes flew off the shelves. 2025 Topps Update Series released last week, and collectors have been fervently adding rookies, autographs, parallels, and inserts to their collections.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Consecutive Weeks on Hot List: 🔥🔥

If anyone wondered how the Oklahoma City Thunder would do in defending their NBA championship, the start of this season has provided a pretty strong indication. At 13-1, the Thunder are the best team in the NBA, and Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning MVP, is the driving force behind it. With 32.6 points and 6.6 assists per game, SGA has a hand in plenty of points for OKC, which is averaging 121.6 ppg.

Josh Allen

With three passing touchdowns and three rushing scores in a shootout win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Allen continued his MVP-caliber campaign in Week 11. As the reigning MVP, Allen knows what it takes to win, and he has the Bills at 7-3 and in prime playoff position.

Nikola Jokic

Jokic has finished first or second in the last five MVP votes, and he may end up there again this season. Currently averaging a triple-double, Jokic had a monster week with a 55-point showing against the Clippers and his seventh triple-double in 12 games against the Timberwolves, helping the Nuggets extend their winning streak to seven games.

Tetairoa McMillan

McMillan was already having a fine rookie season for the Panthers, but his Week 11 performance was one that stood out. He hauled in 8 passes for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns, helping Carolina defeat the Atlanta Falcons in overtime. In 10 games this season, McMillan has gained 748 receiving yards, and he has become a favorite target of quarterback Bryce Young — and many collectors.

Leo Carlsson

In 18 games, Carlsson had amassed 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) in what is shaping up to be the best season of his career. The 20-year-old, third-year center may be powering the Ducks out of a rebuilding effort that began in 2018. All seven campaigns since then have been losing ones, but with Carlsson potentially developing into a franchise player, the Ducks could be on the verge of another successful era.

Jalen Johnson

In a four-game road trip to the West coast, Johnson averaged 24.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 9.3 assists, and 2.5 steals to earn Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors. That included a high-level performance against the Utah Jazz, which saw Johnson became the first player in the NBA since 1973-74 (when steals became official) to record at least 31 points, 18 rebounds, 14 assists and 7 steals in game.

Matthew Wood

Wood did not begin the season with the Nashville Predators, but the rookie has been the team’s best player since his arrival. The 20-year-old is the first rookie of the season to record a hat trick, and he has posted 10 points in 13 games as one of the few bright spots for the struggling Preds (6-10-4).
