Welcome to another edition of Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we take a quick and fun look at what’s hot and what’s not in the worlds of sports cards and sports.

The 2021 NFL season is officially here. Although we’re just one game into the regular season, Tom Brady has already become the center of attention after helping the Buccaneers win in dramatic fashion over the Dallas Cowboys. It’s going to be interesting to see how views on Brady evolve over the coming weeks, months and years. There’s really nothing left for him to do so it’s all about legacy and how we choose to recognize it.

In an article in The Athletic this week by Jeff Howe, there’s a quote from the quarterback, albeit from a few years ago, where he states he’s looking at Michael Jordan, not Joe Montana, for his spot among the greats. Fan or not, that’s where we’re at. It’s hard to argue against the fact that Brady is the greatest to ever play the game. His numbers and his rings make the case. Whether it’s one more year, three or five on the field, there’s only one challenge for Brady now. That’s to see how far his greatness can go and his legend ascend. He really has nothing to lose, which is actually kind of exciting to think about.

As for Brady’s cards, it’ll be interesting to see what happens going forward. His marquee Rookie Cards are museum pieces now. With those becoming more and more out of reach, perhaps it’ll be some of his other earlier cards that see movement. Although strong, they don’t get nearly the attention. Just look to the person Brady sees himself as chasing, Michael Jordan, and his second-, third- and fourth-year cards.

This week’s Hot/Cold is brought to you by Dynasty Breaks.
