Beckett Sports Card Hot / Cold – October 1, 2022
Welcome to a Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we take a fun and quick look at what’s hot and what’s not in the worlds of sports cards and sports. With the calendar turning to October, it’s officially Spooky Season so be careful with all the pumpkin spice and candy corn (and probably best to avoid any pumpkin spice candy corn all together).
It has been 61 years since 1961 when Roger Maris set the American League single-season home run record of 61. Now he shares that spot with Aaron Judge and the Yankees slugger still has a very real shot of beating it.
At almost the same time, Albert Pujols is putting the finishing touches on a career that has put him in the top tier of baseball’s best hitters. He launched the 701st home run on Friday night, adding a little more magic to a stellar final season.
Things are starting to level off with 2022 Topps Chrome Baseball, which got off to a bit of a bumpy start. Boxes aren’t at their previous pre-sale highs, but the packs are definitely getting ripped. Topps has added some clarity with the missing Extended Series rookies. On top of that, there are now Logofractor mega boxes, offering a new look.
2022-23 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Hockey releases across Canada on Monday, which is typically one of the biggest hockey releases of the year.
