Beckett Sports Card Hot / Cold – March 9, 2024
Welcome to another installment of Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we take quick and fun look at what’s and what’s not in the worlds of sports and sports cards.
March Madness has hit early and the tournament hasn’t even begun. Caitlin Clark has been abuzz in the hobby in recent weeks, setting scoring records, declaring for the WNBA draft and signing an exclusive deal with Panini. She has cards, including autographs, dating back to 2022-23 Bowman University products with more in 2023-24 sets as well as other offerings from both Topps and Panini.
A lot of collectors discovered hockey cards this week with the release of 2023-24 Upper Deck Series 2. While the checklist runs a lot deeper than one card, the chase centers around the Connor Bedard Young Guns. It’s likely to become the most popular Rookie Card for super prospect. There’s also the $1 million bounty from Dave and Adam’s placed on the one-of-one Gold Outburst parallel.
2023-24 Panini Prizm continues to be the big NBA product at the moment. Moving beyond the massive parallel rainbow, the product’s Prizmania inserts are proving to be particularly popular. The illustrated SSP inserts are somewhat reminiscent of the caricature t-shirts that were popular more than 30 years ago.
Aaron ek
Aaron Ekblad is kind of a random player to be on the cold list since he’s an NHL defenseman and only a handful of NHL defenseman have ever had long lasting hobby love to began with anyways.
I think the Elly De la cruz Card Hype is just that, all hype. I believe a TON of these are in Print. Very early on, i got 5, 4 different colors, etc.
