Beckett Sports Card Hot / Cold – June 18, 2021
Welcome to a Father’s Day weekend edition of Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we have some fun taking a quick look at what’s hot and what’s most certainly not in sports cards and sports.
Injuries may ultimately derail Brooklyn’s run at an NBA championship this year but Kevin Durant is doing all he can to make sure it continues. With James Harden and Kyrie Irving out, the Nets’ Big 3 is down to a Dominant 1. That dominance was on display Wednesday when Durant dropped 49 points, pulled down 17 rebounds and made 10 assists in Brooklyn’s Game 5 win. Milwaukee took Game 6 so it’s winner stays with Game 7 on Saturday night.
In the other Eastern semi, Trae Young continues to lead the Hawks. If there’s been a breakout star so far this NBA postseason, it’s the Atlanta point guard.
In baseball, it’s much the same as far as names go. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. continue to bash. Jacob deGrom is putting up legendary numbers from the mound. Shohei Ohtani is doing it from both sides. All continue drive the baseball card market as well.
In its first full week of official release, 2021 Topps Series 2 Baseball is the dominant product. Like every Topps flagship product, there’s no single thing driving it other than it being Topps Baseball. Variations have collectors looking and there are some rookies like Ke’Bryan Hayes and Alex Kirilloff to watch for, but it’s probably best enjoyed simply by taking it all in.
This week’s Hot/Cold is brought to you by Dynasty Breaks.
