Beckett Sports Card Hot / Cold – July 1, 2024
Welcome to another installment of Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we take quick and fun look at what’s hotter than a 4th of July BBQ and what’s on ice in the worlds of sports and sports cards.
Although it has been out for a couple of weeks now, 2024 Topps Series 2 Baseball continues to be the dominant product in the hobby right now. The massive checklist was a given, but there are some surprise additions like Jackson Holliday offering a new spin on the 1989 Fleer Bill Ripken and more Kevin Hart shenanigans that give the set some added fun.
With the NBA Finals now in the rearview and everyone but Celtics fans moving on, it was time for the draft. Early expectations aren’t too high for the 2024 draft class but that doesn’t mean that the top lottery picks aren’t getting some added hobby attention. Zaccharie Risacher topped them all. Despite playing in Europe, he already has several cards including some in 2023-24 Bowman Chrome University and 2023-24 Bowman Best University.
As far as hot basketball products go, 2023-24 Donruss Optic is the leader of new releases. Chrome, rookie autographs and lots of inserts highlight the checklist.
The NHL season has wrapped and the Florida Panthers are Stanley Cup Champions. The team isn’t exactly a hobby hotbed. Rather than superstars, the Panthers took the Cup with a deep roster of standout characters. They might not be burning up card show tables, but Sergei Bobrovsky and Sam Reinhart are among those getting an immediate post-playoff bump.
