Beckett Sports Card Hot / Cold – February 12, 2021
Welcome to another Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we take a quick look at what’s streaking and what’s struggling in sports cards and sports. Also, in case you haven’t been keeping an eye on the calendar, Sunday is Valentine’s Day. You know, in case you need to get another kind of card.
The new baseball season is unofficially here as 2021 Topps Series 1 Baseball has arrived. As usual, early on it has been its usual hobby juggernaut. 2020 was a long year in a lot of way, but for card collectors, this marks a fresh start with new rookies to chase, lots of inserts and parallels, more than 100 variations and yet another anniversary to celebrate.
And all this comes just a week after the 2020-21 NBA card season got underway with the release of Hoops. Similar to Topps Baseball, it’s one of the season’s cornerstone releases for a lot of the same reasons — only basketball. LaMelo Ball continues to pace the rookies, but Hoops has a ton of content that’s keeping collectors busy.
With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers emerging victorious in Super Bowl LV, it’s not surprising that Tom Brady cards have surged again. This time around though, the focus has shifted from debating whether he’s the best ever to more of a confirmation.
This week’s Hot/Cold is brought to you by Dynasty Breaks.

@Jarad – Not everyone collects for the same reasons. There are lots out there who collect to collect. And there have long been collectors who also sell. Both have co-existed for decades.
