Beckett Sports Card Hot / Cold – December 1, 2023
Welcome to another edition of Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we take quick and fun look at what’s and what’s not in the worlds of sports and sports cards. Seeing as how it’s December, feel free to blast the Boney M as you peruse this week’s list.
Heading into the holiday season, it’s a quartet of rookies leading the charge: Victor Wembanyama, CJ Stroud, Chet Holmgren and Connor Bedard.
Wembanyama continues to be a near nightly highlight reel. Yes, his sheer size is part of it. But it’s more than that. Still 19-years old, he’s averaging more than 19 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. With 2023-24 Hoops on shelves, there’ll be a steady flow of new NBA cards on the way in the year ahead.
Holmgren is the other big rookie on the hardcourt so far this season. His card situation is a little different. Drafted in 2022, he sat out last season due to injury. However, that didn’t stop him from appearing in the full slate of 2022-23 products.
As far as basketball breakouts go, that honor has to go to Tyrese Maxey. With James Harden gone from Philadelphia, he’s playing like an All-Star. As a result, his 2020-21 Rookie Cards are seeing lots of action.
