Beckett Sports Card Hot / Cold – August 20, 2022
Welcome to a Dog Days of Summer edition of Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we take a fun and quick look at what’s hot and what’s not in the worlds of sports cards and sports. There weren’t any big last-minute shockers like last week’s news of Fernando Tatis’ suspension. But the sting is still being felt in that regard.
As far as what’s happening on the field, it was a good week for baseball rookies. Brett Baty made his debut in New York, hitting a home run on his first big league swing. Through four games with the Mets, the 2019 first round pick has three hits and four RBI. Players are often hottest upon their initial arrival (or even just before), so collectors may want to take a bit of a cautious wait-and-see approach over the next while. That said, the possibility of a lineup with Baty, Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor over the next few years has to excite Mets fans.
Julio Rodriguez returned to the Mariners after a stint on the injured list. He had a big night Tuesday, going 3-5 at the plate with a home run.
From rookies to all-time greats, one has to wonder if Albert Pujols is one of the most overlooked players in baseball. Yes, his cards command strong prices. His 2001 Bowman Chrome autographed Rookie Card is iconic and helped usher in a new era in the hobby. But as he continues to hit milestones and pass other greats, you’d think he’d be generating more buzz than he is. Look at the numbers. Pujols is one of the best to ever play the game. He’s elite among the elite. It’s been a while since he’s been dominant but the overall body of work is the thing of legend.
Do you create baseball cards if you do how much do you charge and how many cars
