Beckett Sports Card Hot / Cold – April 29, 2023
Welcome to a spring edition of Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold where we take a quick and fun look at what’s hot and what’s not in the worlds of sports and sports cards. It’s a busy week with one of the biggest baseball card sets of the season arriving, a perennial favorite in basketball continuing to draw and the NFL Draft being front heavy with quarterbacks.
2023 Bowman Baseball is the big arrival of the week. On the surface, there’s not much new with autographs and Refractors garnering most of the attention. But it’s a new crop of prospects getting their first Bowman Chrome autographs. This includes Druw Jones, the second overall pick in the 2022 draft. He’s been the top chase thus far. But it’s Bowman so it might not be a couple of years before we know for sure who’s best and that’s a big part of the draw.
A couple of Prizm basketball sets continue to be big movers. For 2022-23 Panini Prizm Basketball, it’s no surprise. The offshoot 2022-23 Panini Monopoly Prizm is leading to a lot of social media posts taken inside of Targets.
Bryce Young and CJ Stroud going one-two in the NFL Draft this week. This sets the stage for a promising year in football cards. Add Anthony Richardson going fourth and it gets even better.
Dear Mr. Cracknell. Greetings to you. I’m a 71 year old lady with too many cards. Of course got caught up last year in thr buying frenzy. Stopped when I realized boxes had been hacked. So, my question kind sir, should you decide to answer (it really may be dumb), I have a lava Yadier molina that has Icon in top corner written twice, one gold one white. Would a person put that in a box of cards for the fun of it? It’s very pretty. I thank you, I appreciate your time. I’m a fan of your news. Deb Seeton
It sounds like it might be a printing mistake where something was off slightly.
