When it comes to Pokémon cards that bring in the cash, the latest Phantasmal Flames expansion has turned into the surprise powerhouse of the fall. Charizard headlines rarely miss, but this time the set isn’t just generating heat. It’s been setting off full-on fire alarms across the hobby.

Market watchers saw the spike coming once early sales hit social platforms, but few expected prices to stabilize this high, this fast. Meanwhile, a handful of other cards in the set aren’t matching that momentum, drifting into quieter territory as collectors chase the all-stars.

Here’s where the biggest winners of the week land.

The Hot List

Mega Charizard X ex (125/094 – ME02: Phantasmal Flames (PFL))

There’s no question about the hottest card in the entire set. Market prices hovering around $782 have put it in a class of its own, and the number of confirmed sales shows no signs of slowing. It’s easily the hottest card of the week, and it’s easy to see why beyond mere aesthetics.

Its attack, Inferno X, is built for dramatic finishes, so it’s a great functional card as it is. You can discard any amount of Fire Energy from your Pokémon and deal 90 damage for each one, which means the move scales almost without limit. The more you commit, the harder it hits, and the card’s massive 360 HP gives it the staying power to survive long enough to set up those big swings. So not only does it look great, it’s also a top performer for certain deck builds.

Mega Charizard X ex (130/094 – ME02: Phantasmal Flames (PFL))

Though this is essentially the same card as the other Mega Charizard X ex above, this one is completely different in the aesthetics department. Posting a strong $640-plus market price, it’s become the next-best hit collectors hope to see when chasing Charizard pulls from ME02. The gap between the two versions hasn’t hurt demand. If anything, it’s feeding it.

This is the card people grab when the flagship Charizard climbs out of reach, and that secondary surge is driving its spot firmly into the hot category. And if you’re a big fan of yellow, well, this is the version you’ll want to spring for (or hope that you pull).

Dawn – 129/094 – ME02: Phantasmal Flames (PFL)

Trainer cards are having a moment in Phantasmal Flames, and Dawn continues to ride that wave. With a market price just above $60, it’s the strongest non-Charizard performer in the group this week. Momentum here is steady rather than explosive, but the consistent sales volume is what keeps it in the hot column. As long as collectors chase the set for character art variety rather than just fire-type powerhouses, Dawn should continue holding her ground.

Plus, you really can’t deny how gorgeous this full art card actually is. It gives you a great view of the mountainous terrain behind Dawn and the world of Pokémon, and a good look at the character herself. And its actual ability is nothing to sneeze at. It’s a useful early-game card that can quickly get you any Pokémon you’re waiting to get out onto the field without any negative effects. And that just might change the flow of the game for you in its entirety.
