The Hot List

Jac Caglianone

The Royals just called up one of the prime candidates for AL Rookie of the Year. Caglianone smacked four base hits against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday amping up the excitement for collectors.

Tyrese Haliburton

The Indiana Pacers keep winning through the playoffs downing Milwaukee, Cleveland, and then the Knicks to earn a berth in the championship game. The Pacers shocked OKC in Game 1 of the finals with, you know who, hitting the game winning shot with .3 seconds left for an 111-110 win. The longer the Pacers stretch the championship series, the longer Haliburton stays hot on the secondary market.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

SAG put up 38 in Game 1 of the NBA Championship game against the Pacers and then posted 34 in Game 2 showcasing his regular season MVP award to those just joining the season. Gilgeous-Alexander has all the tools to continue to be one of the NBA’s elites, which should keep his resale value high for years to come.

2024 Select Football

Still about three months away from meaningful football action in the pros or college, yet Panini is getting fans hyped about the upcoming schedules. The doldrums of summer are not hitting the 2024 Select football line. The set was released with 500 cards. Among the many parallels offered, the Jumbo Rookie Signature Swatches and Prime Selection Prizm Signatures are big gets for collectors.

Connor McDavid

Edmonton has cruised through the NHL Playoffs and now are tied 1-1 in the championship round against the Florida Panthers. McDavid keeps adding to his career playoff numbers with six goals and 25 assists in the 2024-25 postseason. The center now has 43 playoff goals and 105 assists in 92 playoff games.

Cal Raleigh

Cal Raleigh is finally getting the attention deserved and putting together both a career year and possibly a historic season. The power hitting catcher for the Mariners knocked 27 out of the park in 2022 and then went consecutive seasons with 30 or more… he has already smashed 26 this year in just 63 games. Looking for rookie cards, 2021 was his season.

Caleb Williams

The former USC QB has had the spotlight on him after winning the Heisman Trophy (2022) and being the top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Bears did not have a great 2024 campaign, but Williams was good throwing for 3,541 yards with 20 TDs against just six picks. Rushing for 489 yards, but no touchdowns, expect Williams to add more of that element to his game in the red zone this season.

Cam Ward

Manning Award and Davey O’Brien Award winner in 2024, top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans – Cam Ward can be a great pull or a tricky investment. Rookie quarterbacks historically have a hard time making the adjustments needed to be elite. But, if you get Ward cards early, the long-term payout could be great.

Brad Marchand

Pushed against Toronto in the quarterfinals but getting a “gentleman’s sweep” of Tampa Bay and Carolina, the Panthers are pushing to hoist the trophy tied 1-1 against the Oilers. Through 19 playoff games this season, Marchand has seven goals and 10 assists.

The Cold List

Junior Caminero

Will he or won’t he – that’s the big question for collectors following Junior Caminero. The Rays slugging third baseman is just in his first full MLB season, playing in seven games in 2023 and 43 last year. Solid numbers across the board hitting .262 with 15 dingers and 40 runs driven in.

Josh Richardson

A rookie during the 2015-16 season, Josh Richardson has been a journeyman in the NBA playing for seven teams in 10 years. Career 11.5 points per game average is cooling off collectors.

Zion Williamson

Fighting off injuries for five years, the feel is if Zion Williamson wanted it as badly as the city of New Orleans, the NBA, and collectors want it for him, he would be first team All-NBA. Should Williamson have a healthy season in 2025-26, his career average of 24.7 points per game will get him back on the Hot List.
