The baseball card year is not quite complete, but the calendar has turned so we’re preparing our selections for the Best of 2012, aka The Awards Issue of Beckett Baseball, where we present our picks for the most memorable and most notable cardboard creations of the year.
While we’re still chewing on our choices, we wanted to make sure that you, the collectors, also have your picks noted in the issue. Here are the major categories — but not all — that you’ll find in the next issue.

Topps Mini should have been in the bargain category as well.. It was $50 a box + Free shipping in the topps store. Topps regular was higher priced and you got less value hits.
Cooperstown would have been my pick for new product had Topps mini not come out this year.
Topps Archives should be under “best rip.”
Have to agree with Zotster, Archives was really a decent Rip for the money. Although I pulled bums for Auto’s the concept of all the different designs was in one product was great and the 84 Harper short print and Auto are undervalued to me. A better Autograph checklist would put this product over the top!
I agree. Archives was the best rip. I liked the “bums” included because it gave us on card auto of a lot of All-Stars we rarely see like Willie Wilson, George Foster, and even Sid Bream. I’d never want a Sid Bream auto, but it gave me the biggest laugh when I he appeared in one of my Archives packs!
On a side note, my daughter also hit a Ted Williams Topps Contract redemption (1:196,000) so I’m a little biased toward Archives. :-)
It is difficult to vote for something like this when most of the cards, by far, come from the same place.
Also…Topps Mini should have been included in “Best Gimmick”.
Let’s end the exclusive Topps contract so that with competition a vote for best product really means something.
This was a great year for baseball and therefore a great year for baseball cards! Nice to see unlicensed product finally competing with Topps…perhaps we will see the end of the sportscard monopoly yet!
