Andrei Vasilevskiy Rookie Card Countdown

Share:

When you backstop your team to back-to-back Stanley Cups, collectors notice. It might take a little time, but eventually they come around. Although he’s been one of the NHL’s best goalies for several years, interest in the Andrei Vasilevskiy Rookie Card lineup has finally started to take off.

Even before his first taste from Lord Stanley’s treasure, the Russian had established himself as a marquee goaltender. He won the Vezina Trophy for the 2018-19 season and has been a finalist every year between 2017-18 and 2020-21. In that span, Vasilevskiy has led the NHL in wins every season. But playing for a team with several superstar scorers, it’s fair to say that for much of his career, Vasy’s cards have been somewhat overlooked.

Not anymore.

A second consecutive Stanley Cup has put the hobby on notice. With just nine different RCs to choose from, there’s not a lot out there. Further compounding that is the fact that most of the Andrei Vasilevskiy Rookie Cards that do exist are on the rarer side with limited print runs.

Even factoring in inserts and parallels, Vasilevskiy doesn’t have a lot of cards from his debut season in the NHL. Pooling it all together, he appears on just 88 cards. Of those, almost 40 are one-of-ones.

Here’s a breakdown of all Andrei Vasilevskiy Rookie Cards ranked according to what’s the most valuable.

Most Valuable Andrei Vasilevskiy Rookie Card Rankings

The following list includes base cards with the RC tag in the Beckett database. This means inserts and parallels are not taken into consideration. Cards are ranked primarily on values in the Beckett Price Guide.

9. 2014-15 O-Pee-Chee Platinum Andrei Vasilevskiy Rookie Card #166

This set marks the debut of the O-Pee-Chee Platinum line, Upper Deck’s foray into the chrome card realm. As far as Andrei Vasilevskiy Rookie Cards go, it’s the only one that isn’t a short print. Just as common as the rest of the base set, it’s a straightforward chromium card. It also makes it one of the goalie’s most readily available RCs.

Of course, like virtually every set using the metallic stock, there are several parallels. Upper Deck does it a little different, freely mixing in patterns at virtually every level.

Parallels: Rainbow, Traxx, White Ice (/199), Red Prism (/135), Blue Cubes (/65), Seismic Gold (/50), Black Ice (/25), Golden Treasures (1/1), Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1)

8. 2014-15 UD Black Andrei Vasilevskiy Rookie Card #42 /199

2014-15 UD Black is actually found in Upper Deck Ice, acting as a bonus set of sorts within the larger product. Numbered to 199, it’s Vasilevskiy’s rarest RC. It’s lone parallels are four different one-of-one Printing Plates. This card is legit rare.

Without an autograph or the same level of brand notoriety as a couple of Vasy’s other unsigned Rookies, this one could fall in the overlooked category. The biggest challenge might simply be tracking one down.

Parallels: Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1)

* UD Black Printing Plates found in 2014-15 The Cup packs.

7. 2014-15 Upper Deck Ice Andrei Vasilevskiy Rookie Card #148 /249

Standard for Ice, the acetate stock is the star here. It’s also bolstered somewhat by Ice’s overall popularity. There’s also the smallish print run of 249 copies. While not among the rarest tier of rookies in 2014-15 Upper Deck Ice, Vasilevskiy is in the group that follows.

Parallels: Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1)

6. 2014-15 Ultimate Collection Andrei Vasilevskiy RC Autograph #90 /299

Brand power goes beyond sneakers and blue jeans. It impacts sports cards as well. The 2014-15 Ultimate Collection Andrei Vasilevskiy Rookie Card is a perfect example. It has less than a third of the number of copies as his SP Authentic RC. Both have on-card signatures, so they’re similar in a lot of ways. Yet, this one can be found for noticeably less. For those looking for a bargain on the high-end, this is one to consider.

Parallels: Silver Spectrum (/25, auto mem), Gold Spectrum (1/1, auto mem)

5. 2014-15 Fleer Showcase Andrei Vasilevskiy RC Auto Patch #157 /375

One of three Andrei Vasilevskiy Rookie Cards to include both an autograph and a patch, this one is the most affordable for a couple of reasons. For starters, there’s the print run. At 375 copies, it’s on the rare side, but the ones it’s contending with come in a little lower. Likely making a bigger impact is the fact that the signature comes on a sticker. If you’re considering this card, be sure to take a close look at the penmanship. Vasilevskiy has a couple of big loops in his sig that could prove to be tough for the smallish sticker to contain.

Parallels: Red Glow (/27), White Hot (/3)

4. 2014-15 Upper Deck Andrei Vasilevskiy Rookie Card #478

When it comes to hockey cards, Young Guns rule the RC realm. Although there’s no official number on the print run, it’s safe to say that this is one of the most common Andrei Vasilevskiy Rookie Cards. Yes, it’s a short print in 2014-15 Upper Deck Series 2, but it’s not an overly tough one, particularly when you take both hobby and retail into account. The Upper Deck flagship casts a wide net, which also makes it the target of a wide mix of collectors. So here it is, outselling some of his more traditionally premium offerings and autographs.

Parallels: Acetate, Exclusives (/100), Exclusives Spectrum (/10), Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1)

3. 2014-15 Upper Deck Premier Andrei Vasilevskiy RC Auto Patch #81 /299

It’s hard to call this card a bargain, but if you’re directly comparing to The Cup, it really is. Both cards come with hard signatures and patch pieces. The Cup has a slightly smaller print run but not by much. Vasilevskiy’s RC in 2014-15 Upper Deck Premier has a larger swatch, making room for more color and recognizable pieces. The card is also done on acetate, giving it a very different feel.

Parallels: Silver Spectrum (/25), Gold Spectrum (/10), Platinum Blue (1/1)

2. 2014-15 SP Authentic Andrei Vasilevskiy RC Autograph #310 /999

Similar to Upper Deck Hockey’s Young Guns, SP Authentic’s Future Watch autographs benefit from tradition. Years of build up made the brand a go-to for Rookie Card collectors looking for signatures. The line is so popular that a production run of 999 copies — more than double Vasilevskiy’s second most common RC autograph — doesn’t bring it down.

The ample white space on the card front is perfect for the goaltender’s somewhat wild signature. Of all his signed Rookies, this one might stand out the best in this regard.

Parallels: Limited (/100, auto mem), Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1)

1. 2014-15 Upper Deck The Cup Andrei Vasilevskiy RC Auto Patch #124 /249

Ever since its debut in 2005-06, The Cup has been king of premium Rookie Cards. Similar to Exquisite in basketball and football, it was one of the sport’s first products to combine autographs, patches and small print runs on RCs.

Parallels: Gold Spectrum (/25, autograph only), Gold (/10), Red Tag (/3), Black (1/1, autograph only), Black Shield (1/1)
