Anaheim Ducks and Upper Deck hold arena promotion
By Stephen Laroche | Beckett Hockey Editor
Fans that went to see the game between the St. Louis Blues and the host Anaheim Ducks on January 15 got a special treat on the way into the Honda Center as sets of Upper Deck hockey cards featuring the home team were handed out.
A six-card collection with a strong checklist, it naturally featured veteran forwards Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry along with Ryan Kesler. Blueliner Cam Fowler and goalie John Gibson made the set as well, in addition to Jakob Silfverberg, who is on pace to put up career numbers in 2016-17.
Unlike some other arena promotions that Upper Deck has held in conjunction with NHL clubs, there was not an
additional card produced to serve as a gift with purchase in the team store. The cards are similar to those which
appeared in 2016-17 Upper Deck Series One, but have no foil on the front and a different number on the back.
While the Ducks ended up on the losing end of a 2-1 decision against the St. Louis Blues that night, they put up a
great effort by coming back to tie the game in the third period by a goal from Rickard Rakell. Unfortunately, for Anaheim, Patrik Berglund scored his second of the game just 51 seconds into overtime for the victory.
Other arena promotions are expected from Upper Deck as the season progresses.
