One of the most valuable and instantly recognizable sports cards ever made is Panini’s Downtown. First introduced in 2018 with their football line, Donruss Downtown and Optic Downtown are chase cards upon release. The product is so well done and sought-after, even in raw form the cards are among the more valuable on the secondary market. Add LeBron James to the mix, prices are sent soaring.
The 2023-24 Panini One and One Downtown Basketball focused on 25 players. Some of the key players in the line included Luka Doncic, Jalen Brunson, Victor Wembanyama, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, Jayson Tatum, Tyrese Haliburton, Anthony Edwards, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Trae Young, and Ja Morant. And, of course, “King James”.
The values for the #17 James run from $1,250 to $2,500 with a 9.5 grade pulling in over $3,200 and a 10 fetching $3,300-plus. Doncic, Curry, and Gilgeous-Alexander cards are also valued in the same range. The most valuable in the group is the #22 Wembanyama.
There are 10 variations cards featuring Jokic, SAG, Doncic, Yao Ming, Curry, Wembanyama, Antetokounmpo, James, Bilal Coulibaly, and Dirk Nowitzki. The #8 Variations James card raw values in the same ballpark, $1,250 to $2,500.
The print runs for One and One Downtown and the Variations are unknown.
