Beckett Sports Card Hot / Cold – June 25, 2022
Welcome to the first Beckett Sports Card Hot/Cold of the summer where we take a fun and quick look at what’s hot and what’s not in the worlds of sports cards and sports.
2022 Topps Series 2 Baseball and 2021 Panini Prizm Football continue to be getting a lot of collector attention. Both are now showing up at retail, which is opening up access to places without card shops or those who causally pick up some packs on a whim while out for toothpaste or coffee grounds. In the case of Prizm, blasters and hangers also offer a more affordable option. No matter the reasoning, these sets aren’t going anywhere in the near future.
This continues to be the year of Aaron Judge in baseball. Whether it’s mashing more home runs at a potentially historic rate or dropping in a single for the game-winning run, he has once again emerged as one of the game’s biggest names.
With the Colorado Avalanche one win away from winning the Stanley Cup, Cale Makar’s cards have been surging. The young defenseman is a Conn Smythe favorite for playoff MVP. And outside of eliminated Edmonton Oilers, he’s the leading postseason point getter. His Rookie Cards can be found in 2019-20 products. Of the readily available cards, his Upper Deck Young Guns is a popular choice. For those looking high-end, it’s all about The Cup.
