1984 Donruss Action All-Stars Baseball Checklist and Details
1984 Donruss Action All-Stars Baseball blows things up. Bypassing the traditional card route, this set is both bigger and smaller than the main Donruss line.
As far as dimensions go, things are bigger. Measuring 3.5″ by 5″, they’re more like postcards. But with a checklist of just 60 cards, it’s much more condensed with a higher concentration of stars (at least through the lens of 1984).
This marks the second year for Donruss Action All-Stars. Although the oversized format remains the same, the overall look and design is definitely different. Fronts look like regular baseball cards, only bigger. A single large action photo takes up most of the front. By contrast, 1983 Donruss Action All-Stars uses the increased size to pair a large player portrait with a smaller game shot for a sort of collage.
The 1984 Donruss Action All-Stars Baseball checklist doesn’t have any of the year’s key rookies. However, there are several Hall of Famers including Cal Ripken Jr., Nolan Ryan, Rickey Henderson and George Brett. Second-year cards of Ryne Sandberg and Wade Boggs are also in the set.
Like virtually Donruss baseball sets from the 1980s, there’s a puzzle. Here, the subject is Ted Williams with Dick Perez providing the artwork. It sticks with the standard 63 pieces that other Donruss puzzles from the era had. Each pack has a three-piece panel. The Ted Williams puzzle is actually one of the tougher ones to find or complete as this was the only product it was included in. The main 1984 Donruss Baseball and 1984 Donruss Champions have a separate Duke Snider puzzle.
