Topps Project 2020 Baseball combines iconic baseball cards and an elite group of modern artists. On the surface, the concept is a simple one: 20 cards get a makeover from 20 different artists.

Topps Project 2020 29 Derek Jeter by King Saladeen

Available through the Topps website, that means the final checklist has 400 total cards. Monday through Friday, two different cards are put up for sale for 48 hours. This will continue for much of the year until the set is complete.

The list of original cards leans heavily towards pre-1990s, but there are several cards from then until more recent years as well. The 2011 Topps Update Mike Trout is the newest card in the set.

As for the artists, there is a lot of variety. Some are painters while others are known for their work in fashion and jewellery.

Topps Project 2020 12 Dwight Gooden by Tyson Beck

The structure of the set enables it to be collected a few different ways. For starters, there’s the marathon of all 400 cards. However, some might opt for all 20 interpretations of a particular card. Others might want to get all 20 cards done by an artist.

Cards cost $19.99 each with bulk discounts for lots of five and ten of the same card. You could also buy each day’s pair of cards for $34.99. eBay was a source for finding them a little cheaper, particularly during the initial sales window for a card as sellers placed bulk orders.

Silver frame Artist Proof versions are also available. Numbered to 20, these cost $99.99 $199.99 $299.99. Gold framed one-of-ones are also available. These are sent out at random among the regular orders.

When Did Topps Project 2020 Cards Go on Sale?

There was exact release schedule that Topps Project 2020 cards went live, but it was usually around 1 PM EST/10 AM PST Monday through Friday.

Print runs came later in the day. First, sales had to close then numbers have to be calculated and posted. It was normally a couple of hours after a card’s sales window ends and it was archived. But there was not a specific schedule for print runs each day.

Mike Trout and Derek Jeter Autographs

Starting with card #100, ten of each Topps Project 2020 Mike Trout card will include an autograph. These will not be sold separately. Rather, they’ll be randomly inserted into the cards being sent out. It’s basically like the Gold Frame one-of-ones. Autographs do replace the regular card ordered.

Similarly, Derek Jeter autographs were announced starting with his Ben Baller card (#132). Moving forward, ten of each of Jeter’s cards will be sent out with a signature. Baller also created a special necklace for someone who purchased his Jeter card.

Topps Project 2020 Evolution: The First 100 Cards

Like a lot of the card maker’s online products, many early Topps Project 2020 print runs were on the low side. But then a couple of things happened. Artists were more involved with showcasing not only their work, but its creation. This means their fans, who might not have been card collectors, started picking some up.

As Topps Project 2020 cards were delivered, they were no longer something to order. Collectors started to recognize the quality of the set and the cards themselves.

An expanding audience — including many from outside the hobby beforehand — plus those live cards meant that more cards were getting ordered. As those print runs grew, some early Topps Project 2020 short prints emerged. These cards saw their prices rise very quickly. That escalation continued as more and more people got on board.

Topps Project 2020 Mike Trout by Ben Baller

A big turning point came when Ben Baller’s Mike Trout (#51) sold almost 35,000 copies. The next was Keith Shore’s Ken Griffey Jr. and Joshua Vides’ Nolan Ryan selling 99,177 and 64,629 copies respectively during the same window.

That was a peak, though.

Reaching the Midway Point of Topps Project 2020

A significant amount of the fast growth appears to have come from speculators looking to make fast and easy profits. With so many doing the same thing, supply started out pacing actual demand. Profits fell and so have the print runs. Lots of eBay sellers also had to deal with cancelled sales and returns as surging prices tumbled.

Another challenge frustrating collectors was the fact that Topps’ delivery of the cards go delayed. The high print runs combined with supply chain issues meant long waits for cards. While the card maker is working to catch up to a more reasonable time frame, it’s still a concern for some.

Topps Project 2020 192 George Brett by Ermsy

While there are still some player-artist combinations that spike, it’s hard to imagine the wild couple of weeks replicating themselves. Print runs are still higher than they were at first, a testament to the set’s popularity with its core group of collectors.

Despite the drop in numbers, things have largely stabilized. If things continue they way they’ve been, it’s likely those who have stuck around — and it’s a sizeable number when you compare it some many other print-on-demand releases — are probably in for the long haul.

The Final Push

Topps Project 2020 wrapped its 400-card run on December 23. To get there, it meant switching up to three cards per day beginning on November 30.

The other big change in Topps Project 2020’s final act was the addition of Rainbow Foilboard parallels for select cards. Not every card got one but for those that did, the foil versions were included at a rate of 1:20 cards. They were sent to collectors at random.

Without counting any of these parallels or other special cards, Topps Project 2020 sold nearly 2.5 million cards — 2,467,081 to be more specific.

Might be wrong here but I’m pretty sure each artist is only doing one card, not all 20 players.

  2. TJ 30 March, 2020 at 17:01

And are they pumping out all 400 in the next 40 weeks? Or certain breaks? I’ve ordered at least 1 of all of them so far but would love to start seeing how they print out and look before pumping too much more in. Lucky enough to get a Griffey Artist Proof frame ordered. Looks like lucking into getting a few of those APs along the way (and paying the $100 for each) might be the only way to finance this thing.

  3. Michael W 1 April, 2020 at 12:08

Besides the Gold and Silver Frame cards, Topps didn’t say how many cards of each are being printed. Are the amounts only limited by the amount of time they’re available for sale or is there a cap on the amount of each card for sale?

I haven’t collected cards in years but this set is pretty interesting (and pricey)!

    • Ryan Cracknell 1 April, 2020 at 13:13

@Michael – Print runs are based on what’s ordered. We’re adding the numbers as they’re released. The first handful are posted.

    • Ryan Cracknell 5 April, 2020 at 18:49

@Shake my head – It will likely be changed before it’s printed. If all end up being like that, it’s doubtful there’d be a difference in future value.

  4. John S. 8 April, 2020 at 06:11

So they’re now using early 90s Fleer designs for the Mays and Gwynn cards? Makes perfect sense.

  5. SteveG 11 April, 2020 at 12:32

    My question:
If we are lucky enough to get a special card, do we get two cards? or the one card is upgraded to the special card ?

    My comment:
each artist is creating 20 cards,,,,, so we are looking at 20 artists multiplied by 20 cards = 400 cards

  6. Daniel 14 April, 2020 at 15:56

Ryan, what do you think the future value of owning the entire set will be say 20-30 years down the road?

    • Ryan Cracknell 14 April, 2020 at 17:32

@Daniel – Sorry, but I don’t speculate on that. There’s no science behind it beyond demand.

  7. Beau 15 April, 2020 at 21:09

Really wish they would have left Gooden out of these out and added 86 Barry Bonds Topps Traded, very iconic card. Also Mark Mcgwire USA Topps would have been better than the 87 in my personal baseball opinion.. 1952 Mickey Mantle… Maybe next year?

    • Ryan Cracknell 17 April, 2020 at 17:38

@ZacknPhilly – Been planning it. Just waiting until every artist has had a couple of cards. Time permitting, probably sometime next week.

  8. BH 20 April, 2020 at 19:37

Love this set – been all over it. Even as a long-time collector who started during the junk wax era and collected vintage cards, I think this set is awesome and really innovative. I know some people disagree and would like the originals left alone, and I completely respect that opinion. But I think it’s great that a variety of artists across different genres are offering up their interpretations of these [mostly] iconic cards. I’ve even had interactions with four of the artists thus far – EFDOT is actually incorporating a few of my suggestions into his 1969 Nolan Ryan design that should be dropping later this week (probably Thurs 4/23 or Fri 4/24)!

Note: There is no chance in the world to get a hold of Artist Proofs from the Topps site when they are released. Topps does absolutely nothing to prevent the use of bots to purchase all of the cards, so they’re all gone within seconds of being released each day at 1 PM EST. The site generally continues to crash and have issues with loading for the next 1-2 hours afterwards, so it is probably best to purchase the days cards later on in the day since each one is available for 48 hours.

Bonus: Several of the artists are offering limited, signed print runs through their websites – Blake Jamieson, EFDOT, and Tyson Beck. Topps does not allow the artists to sell during the print run window, so most artists list the cards after the print run closes out. Each one also is producing their own magnetic case stickers to reclose the cases after producing on card autos. Tyson Beck is even producing a limited /2 signature using a neon pen that shows up under a UV light (never seen that before) – though it may take some time to receive the signed cards given that he is located in Australia (so Topps has to ship to him, he has to sign/reseal, and then ship back to the US or eventual origin).

  9. David Serviss 21 April, 2020 at 18:54

Why not raise the price of the $20 cards to $20.50 or $21.00, etc and then do the 20 artist proofs as random send outs like the 1/1. Thats way more fair than letting the same people buy the 20 AP’s and then listing them immediately on ebay for 100’s to 1000’s more. I have a better shot on random luck than buying one on your site at noon.

  10. Jeremy Ballard 23 April, 2020 at 11:07

Most of these are ridiculous, but I love the two Matt Taylor has done so far. I’m just going to collect his.

  11. Stephen Scott 6 May, 2020 at 20:05

I received a card with a blank white back; is this an error or are these also being released randomly with orders?

  12. Stephen Scott 7 May, 2020 at 19:35

@Ryan – appreciate the quick reply and input. Clearly a market driven question, but any guess if this would be of particular value? Have you heard of any other print mistakes with the P2020?

    • Ryan Cracknell 8 May, 2020 at 12:55

@Stephen – Not sure. You might get more but it’s a novelty so maybe not. If it was me, I’d reach out to Topps and get a proper one.

  13. jimmincy61 9 May, 2020 at 08:25

I love the set!! I’m collecting all of the Griffeys. I would love to collect all of them but can’t justify spending 8k on cards. @ Stephan Scott I saw The Mariano card on Ebay for 10k. It has wrong player info on the back.

  14. Stephen Scott 11 May, 2020 at 18:31

@Ryan – appreciate the input and quick replies. I will follow up with Topps for sure. Again, thanks for the solid guidance. Stephen

  15. Adam 14 May, 2020 at 10:22

Ok so how long does it actually take to receive a card after it has been purchased? It’s been 13 days since my first purchase and it still says it’s processing. I do know they have to make it and package it. Any thoughts?

    • Ryan Cracknell 14 May, 2020 at 14:41

@Adam – It can vary. The printing facility may not be at full capacity at the moment as well. They are definitely coming out, though as new cards seem to be popping up live every day or two.

  16. Andrew 15 May, 2020 at 02:45

Hey what happened to this site showing all the cards on one page? That was really helpful in seeing the cards in one area

    • Ryan Cracknell 15 May, 2020 at 10:50

@Andrew They’re still all here — twice actually — under the player and artist gallery tabs. I can look at posting it back up, but having everything three times on the same post was feeling redundant, not to mention the size was getting really big and we’re only 20% through. The organized versions seemed to make more sense as it grows.

If enough want it back, I can get it back or look at a similar alternative.

  17. Andrew 15 May, 2020 at 11:09

I agree with the size getting really big especially over time. I just really liked how it showed which cards dropped in chronological order and it showed the two latest cards at the bottom. Either way this is a great resource keep it up!

    • Ryan Cracknell 15 May, 2020 at 11:56

@Andrew – Cool. I’ll try and brainstorm over the weekend to see if there’s a solution that’s a “best of all worlds” approach. My thinking was, in the not-too-distant future, the all-inclusive gallery was going to become a monster and not in a good way.

  18. Andrew 15 May, 2020 at 12:07

I think it looks awesome when all the cards are together in one collage. Maybe a link that takes you to a page tat has the collage? The player and artist galleries are a perfect way to organize them as well.

  19. Chaz 19 May, 2020 at 20:33

Curious about release times and how to purchase an Artist Proof. Is it luck or do people get special, purchase privileges somehow?

    • Ryan Cracknell 19 May, 2020 at 23:35

@Chaz – There are only 20 of each Artist Proof and they are very popular.

  20. Andrew 20 May, 2020 at 20:19

Hey did you hear about Topps shipping regular snap cases now instead of magnetic ones? Even in the item descriptions now they say it’s a protective
plastic case. Hopefully they don’t look too different…

  21. Slay 23 May, 2020 at 08:30

Anything coming out on Pete Rose? The Hit King is banned from the Hall of Fame is he Banned on this also?..4,192 i would think would be hot

    • Ryan Cracknell 24 May, 2020 at 13:02

@Slay – It’s only the same 20 cards being reinterpreted by the 20 artists. Also, because Pete Rose is banned from MLB, he likely won’t be appearing in any Topps baseball sets.

  22. Jacob WICKLUND 24 May, 2020 at 12:06

@ryan…i saw that the projected value of these cards is going to skyrocket through June and July more so then they already have. Do you think this is true

    • Ryan Cracknell 24 May, 2020 at 13:04

@Jacob – Sorry, but I don’t speculate on card prices, especially when things are extremely volatile like these are now.

    • Ryan Cracknell 27 May, 2020 at 11:27

@Jon – Topps doesn’t normally announce who they’re doing ahead of time. If you follow the artists on social media, sometimes they post previews the day before.

  23. Forest Mitchell 27 May, 2020 at 10:14

Why is it we see artist in possession of Artist Proof cards number to 20? It is such a gross look for Topps and this project. The artist proof cards are not actually for sale. Those cards have owners ahead of time. If you are on the site when these cards go live, they are sold out instantly. Not 20 seconds. Not 30 seconds. Instant. You never have a shot at buying one. It is like they list them just to seem like they are selling them to the public but then instantly are moved to sold out category. Yet you see artist and high profile accounts with artist proof cards and even gold cards. So much insider trading taking place.

    • Ryan Cracknell 27 May, 2020 at 11:22

@Forest – Several of the artists are going out on the secondary market and buying their cards and proofs. They’re offering rewards for the gold frame cards. That’s how they’re getting them.

The framed cards offered on their site are moving fast and there “might” be bots, but there is also only 20 copies of each. It’s a challenge with technology as well as something that’s proving to be extremely popular and still growing.

    • Ryan Cracknell 28 May, 2020 at 17:24

@Patrick – Topps posts them publicly on their website, usually a few hours after the sales window closes.

  24. Rick 28 May, 2020 at 02:55

What’s up with the bulk discounts on the site listing the buy price for (10) cards at $125.00 but actually being charged $144.99 ??

Did Topps raise the prices ?

    • Ryan Cracknell 28 May, 2020 at 17:28

      @Rick – It’s “+$125”, so the base rate of $19.99 plus the additional $125.

  25. Dr. Kevin 28 May, 2020 at 09:18

Oh my goodness, look at the print runs of the last two offerings. I guess it was inevitable once prices started shooting up. I imagine orders will be high for a while, then once values of those cards are nowhere near earlier low-print run cards order will drop again, and the cycle repeats.

  26. Kevin Cormier 28 May, 2020 at 18:06

@Forest – there are definitely bots involved. I’ve seen this happen for a decade in sneaker drops, so it’s unfortunately all too familiar. It’s amazing what some dedicated young minds can do.

  27. Slay 28 May, 2020 at 20:31

When you buy a Card from the 2020 Project will you 100% Get it? I ordered on May 8th and says still Processing…I don’t want to keep Buying if it’s a Toss up as to wether they will actually ship….Thanks

    • Ryan Cracknell 28 May, 2020 at 20:56

@Slay – If you ordered from Topps directly, you will get it. If you bought from someone else, you should. If you haven’t heard from them, shoot them an email and see what’s up. It’s possible they haven’t received their cards yet. There’s also a note on Topps’ website about Covid-19-related shipping delays.

  28. Geo 31 May, 2020 at 04:14

@Slay FWIW – I’ve been tracking what cards are actually “in hand” right now. From what I can tell is that card #59 has started to reach people. This card was on sale from May 5th to May 7th. If your card was sold from May 6th to 8th I think it’s reasonable to assume you’ll get it this week. If it hasn’t shipped yet I assume your card was a May 8th to May 10th and would ship early this week and looking at a June 6th to June 10th delivery. Just speculating, but it appears to be working out about this rate so far.

  29. Kyle Anderson 1 June, 2020 at 15:17

@ Jeremy, I just started with the last two of last week, so I’m in a similar situation. Taylor’s Jeter is legit, but I think I’m going to collect Grotesk and Mister Cartoon. Luckily I had some money in my PayPal account from selling some of the junk era (football) PSA 10s that spiked to go back and get most of Grotesk’s early offerings. I’m only missing Gwynn and Gibson now. I’m hoping to make some more sales so I don’t have to spend out of pocket dollars.

  30. STUART 1 June, 2020 at 16:00

RYAN, IS THERE ANY WAY OF KNOWING IF THE 20 CARD JETER SET WILL HAVE ANY “LANDSCAPE” VERSION CARDS OR WILL THEY ALL BE “PORTRAIT” AS IS HIS 1993 TOPPS CARD? THANKS. STUART

    • Ryan Cracknell 1 June, 2020 at 18:54

@STUART – Artists are still creating the cards and it’s probably up to them. I think it’d be an outside shot that it’d change from vertical as that doesn’t seem to be a stylistic thing any of the artists are currently playing with.

    • Ryan Cracknell 2 June, 2020 at 14:49

@Benson – They’re hitting pause today. Picks up again Wednesday for #99 and #100.

  31. Jerry 8 June, 2020 at 09:14

Anybody know where Topps is on shipping? Last I heard was around mid 50’s about a week ago.

  32. Rick 8 June, 2020 at 13:11

Wow …. has interest collapsed on this set already? We are about to see print runs of under 10K again. Didn’t think I’d see that again anytime soon … if ever.

  33. Rick 9 June, 2020 at 11:14

@Jerry- I purchased some cards in the 70’s from pre-sellers back in May and they are now being shipped to me. Based on that I’m hoping the cards in the 80’s start shipping from Topps next week.

  34. JV 18 June, 2020 at 12:07

Just a note, the 117-118 entries are flipped. Thiele’s Don is 118. Thanks for the updates

  35. Jason 19 June, 2020 at 13:28

Appreciate the site! Also, I landed the #123 Rickey Henderson Artist Proof today. Pure stupid luck. Just happened to be on the site when the cards dropped and was able to cart it. It can happen!!

  36. proper 19 June, 2020 at 21:45

Just got shipping confirmation for cards 83-84.

you guys think resale value will go up these next few months for the cards that have already been shipped?

  37. Slay 21 June, 2020 at 15:38

Hi, I have emailed Topps 3 Times about a Card that hasn’t shipped with no responses, says Post Office was Notified on June 5th but never has Shipped and I have Gotten Several Cards I bought after this Card..Any Suggestions? Thanks

    • Ryan Cracknell 23 June, 2020 at 09:55

@Slay – Try phoning instead of email. That way you will at least make contact with someone.

    • Ryan Cracknell 23 June, 2020 at 09:57

@lynn – This set is limited only to the 20 selected cards. Topps doesn’t have a deal with Mantle’s estate right now so they can’t do new cards with him.

  38. Rick 23 June, 2020 at 13:22

@proper …..IMO any card from 80 and up …..no matter if in hand or not are going to sell at the $15-$20 range…. in some cases $10-$15. There’s just way more supply than demand. Perhaps in time that will change but who knows when … if ever? Prices across the board have been dropping a lot. I’ve stopped buying the new releases from Topps. I’ll simply wait till they ship and buy from an e-bay seller for the same price or less.

  39. John 23 June, 2020 at 15:34

I emailed Topps with a question 10 days ago and have not yet received a response. I also have tried to call the last 2 days repeatedly with no success.

  40. Slay 23 June, 2020 at 20:55

Hey Ryan, I called and never did get through…Hopefully the Cards will ship..I check Daily…I have emailed several times with no response..I just don’t have the time to sit on hold on the Phone for hours…Thanks for Responding!

  41. Mike 25 June, 2020 at 16:09

Topps is mess. I understand about shipping delays but if you buy the Project2020 cards 5 days a week you should get a new card in your mailbox almost every day. Right now I haven’t received any in at least a week and this is nothing new. They seem to be falling further behind.
That’s on top of the website being very temperamental, they post the new cards as different times every day, and now they’re also falling days behind in announcing prod runs which should be known the second the window closes.

  42. Adam King 29 June, 2020 at 12:14

I could answer the Production Number question but I am not 100%. I think the reason why the numbers aren’t posted right away is because of Time Zones.

  43. Dane 2 July, 2020 at 19:37

I’ve been looking at the Ripken 2020 project gallery and noticing the slight variation in bat angles. I always felt that the stark black line of the bat cutting through the blue sky straight into the corner of the image was a key factor in its aesthetic success. You can see it dip from Rochester to Taylor to Beck. These little alterations in the artistic process are fascinating and part of what makes this set so rad. I’ve been really enjoying seeing what types of changes are made to these iconic designs, its a great set concept. As it progresses I hope the artists keep pushing these ideas further. Anyways, noticing this made me think of how many times Cal’s stance changed in his career – he was kind of known for these adjustments and there are videos and even infographics online delving into this topic. One of the most notable was what he referred to as the ‘violin’ with the bat almost parallel to the ground, resting on the shoulder with a forward/backward motion… Anyways, Cal’s batting stance [especially the violin] would be awesome to see represented on an upcoming rookie card variation in the project 2020 set – especially if the artist rendered him in his age and uniform from the era the stance was seen. Hey all you project 2020 artists, can I put in a request for this? Baltimore has had some really slick alternate uniforms over the years too which would also be cool to see – like the all black getup on the Ben Baller version. I also have been having no luck with Topps sending cards or responding to emails [still haven’t seen a card I ordered on 5/27 [and its July now]. Hope they can get it in gear soon – at least the art is on point. Thanks Beckett for archiving these in one spot.

  44. Adam King 3 July, 2020 at 10:57

You are missing the picture of the Ichiro Suzuki – Keith Shore card on the Artist List.

  45. Brad 4 July, 2020 at 15:43

I have ordered a ton of cards starting 6 weeks ago and have not received a single one. I’m thinking of calling Topps and telling them to cancel all orders. But I really want the cards. I keep thinking one will show up one day and the other will follow. I’m so disappointed that I have stopped buying them. There some I would have bought but I’m thinking they may never arrive.

  46. Joe 5 July, 2020 at 00:40

Just got my confirmation email for 87-88 shipping today. Just throwing it out there for comparison regarding anyone waiting for their orders.

  47. goblue98 7 July, 2020 at 11:43

@Brad. I think that Topps is majorly backed up in terms of these cards being shipped. It will take a long while for them to catch up.

  48. Rick 8 July, 2020 at 12:48

@Brad …. card numbers 80-100 were the block of very high production runs. After that of course, the hysteria faded and the runs became much smaller. I bet Topps doesn’t get through 80-100 until sometime in August for sure. Gonna need patience here and if you’re antsy to get them so you can resell them …….this grouping is going to be moving for $10-$15 only.

  49. Jerry 8 July, 2020 at 13:21

I got into collecting these in the early 40’s and almost have a full set missing card 1 and 10. My avg price is $95/card right now but by the time everything rolls out I should be around $50-53/card, still a good premium but I think I can still make a decent profit If I decide to sell the set later on.

  50. Rick 10 July, 2020 at 14:52

@Jerry- With production runs now going under 4,000, the interest in this set has been tamped dramatically. It could get ugly going forward if the interest level continues to drop like is has been. I was chasing those early low production cards but have stopped. What’s the point of paying a huge premium for a card that had a run of 2,000 back in the 20-60 block if the new cards are hardly exceeding those run figures and can be had for $15 or less ?

  51. Anthony Feotis 10 July, 2020 at 21:58

I just received Ryan and Griffey (87&88) direct from Topps, they are both really dirty inside the sealed case, a lot of dust and whatever else… I been buying them since the beginning and the is the first time I’ve really noticed it. Love the set, decided to buy Gwynn, Trout, Jeter, Brett, Mister Cartoon, Matt Taylor, Oldmanalan and Gregory Siff and plan on buying the rest. But this is frustrating, any suggestions?

  52. Chris Matsko 16 July, 2020 at 08:54

I ordered 3 cards about a month ago and I can’t find them on my account. Once I got the app they disappeared. I used the same email. I got emails saying thank you for your purchase but didn’t get points or anything since????
I emailed customer service with no reply…

  53. Randy 27 July, 2020 at 10:30

I just received cards 91-94 from Topps. Card 94 (Gwynn) has a blank back. Any news on how common these errors are?

  54. jeff smith 3 August, 2020 at 12:35

So do I have to buy a lot of 10 of a particular player to get an autographed card? Or are they randomly inserted even if I buy 1 card of a player?

    • Ryan Cracknell 3 August, 2020 at 12:59

@jeff – For the cards with autographs, they’re randomly included. You could buy 100 and get none or you could buy one and get an autograph. It’s supposed to be random.

  55. Chris Lauer 13 August, 2020 at 14:24

Cards 201 & 202 were released today? Will this list no longer be updated? Seems to have stopped at 198.

    • Ryan Cracknell 13 August, 2020 at 18:35

@Chris – It has been updated (and will continue to be). I was just off for a couple of days celebrating my 20th anniversary.

  56. Chris Lauer 13 August, 2020 at 22:59

Well that’s an excellent reason to take some time off. Congrats on the milestone and many happy more!

  57. Chris 26 August, 2020 at 23:29

Yes. The cards were able to be printed, but Topps couldn’t source the magnetic cases to put them in due to disruptions in the supply chain due to COVID. When the “boom” hit on the Keith Shore Griffey, it created a perfect storm. Now that they’ve been able to get more cases, passed the “boom” cards, and print runs have come down, we should start to see more cards in our mailbox each week.

  58. Moz 27 August, 2020 at 05:23

So far I have lucked out in buying $5 dollar to $10 dollar Project 2020 cards on ebay, instead of dropping $20 each. just an fyi

  59. goblue98 27 August, 2020 at 10:48

Thank you @Chris. There was a huge demand for some time there, but people have moved on tot he next hot thing it looks like.

  60. Chris Lauer 29 August, 2020 at 17:46

Their loss and our gain, I guess. I love this set…I think it’s the best one of the modern era. Beautiful artwork, good card stock, and barely any of the manufactured rarity with multiple serial #’s of the same card where all they’ve done is change the border color. I wish the /20 “artist proofs” didn’t exist, but if they had to do any, at least it was just the 1 and not multiples of /50, /75,/250, etc., etc.

  61. goblue98 31 August, 2020 at 12:16

I agree, Chris. It’s unique and the artwork is amazing, and there are not really any parallels other than the proofs.

  62. Dan 1 September, 2020 at 12:44

I visit this page a few times a week, whether it be for a visual of an artist/player set, to see print runs, or to look for a released card in the checklist. Thank you for your efforts!

  63. Michael Zabak 30 September, 2020 at 22:00

Out of all of the Mike Trout cards that I have the Ben Baller case is slightly smaller than the rest for some reason I assumed it was a high print run and they ran out of cases but I could be wrong. Any thoughts on this anybody?

    • Ryan Cracknell 3 October, 2020 at 13:40

@Michael – Yes – there was a stretch where different holders were used. The combination of rising print runs and getting supply was the likely cause.

  64. Gary 19 October, 2020 at 21:10

Do you know if the Topps 2020 Project cards #247 and #248 have been mailed out yet? I got a notice that they were shipped, but cards in the #276-277 are arriving before these are.

  65. Troy 22 October, 2020 at 14:32

Project 2020 is a great idea and the artwork and imagination from the artists has been fun to see. Now, if Topps could do their part and have these centered properly. I’ve received some directly from Topps that really look bad. 80/20 and 70/30.

  66. grantth 27 October, 2020 at 18:40

Gary, I ordered 247 & 248. I received an email on 10/02/20 from USPS with a tracking number. On 10/06/20 emailed me that the cards had been shipped. I put the tracking code in and USPS says that they are waiting for the item. Topps says that they have notified USPS that the item is ready to be picked up. Also, noticed Topps has listed Fedex-Smart Post as the shipping method. What the heck?…

  67. Dan 28 October, 2020 at 15:46

@Gary – these 2 cards have been a known issue with shipping. I just got mine yesterday, 10/27 and shipping never updated from notice sent until it was delivered. Hopefully you will see these soon, if you haven’t seen them already.

  68. Adam 28 October, 2020 at 16:32

So…I was randomly sent a Mike Trout Project 2020 autographed card, 5/10 by Topps. The invoice says “Customer selected for Mike Trout Autograph.” I’m pretty stoked but would love some insight into what’s going on here. I hadn’t ordered from them since the Nats WS Topps Now cards last year.

  69. Maxwell 29 October, 2020 at 09:41

Super interesting to see how the print runs fluctuated.

Do you know at what point Topps switched cases?

  70. Kyle 22 November, 2020 at 07:26

I think these Topps Project 2020 cards are cool.

Some like the Fucci & Ermsy are different but others like Thiele, Tyson Beck & Mister Cartoon are more traditional.

We are getting all to caught up with PRINT RUN sizes.

@ 1992 Topps Printed @ 6 Million per base card. For Topps 2020 this number has decreased to under 250,000 per base card. That’s a 24 TIMES DECREASE.

Now I did some math an the Topps Project 2020 should finish depending on the sales of the remaining Cards, without a known Print Run as of yet somewhere between 6500 Print Run per card average.

That’s 38.46 TIMES more rare than Topps 2020 Flagship Series One Production.

So ON AVERAGE if the Topps Series One Card is worth 50 cents the Project 2020 Card with all else being equal should be worth. $19.23 easy.

Now factor in the Protective Case and the fact that the cards are always protected from damage with the case and that’s $20+ easy ON AVERAGE.

Yet if the Trout is $2 in Series One that’s $80 to Topps Project 2020, BUT IF the Print Run is 5 TIMES the 6500 average that means $16 per card. But once you factor in is Trout that’s a 2X Premium so now your at $32 per Trout Card in Project 2020.

I over the last week just bought my first cards. Paid $2.50 to $8.75 per card including shipping. Definitely a BUYER at these prices. Not so much at $14.50+ per card which is the minimum price you can purchase directly from Topps via 10 card lots.

Lastly I think even at 100,000 maximum Print Run that is still 2.5 TIMES less than Topps Series One Pr and since the way Topps allows Pre-sales over 48 hours via their website = it’s the ULTIMATE PURCHASES = DEMAND. So in other words the better players and better looking cards will have higher Print Runs. I would GRAVITATE to these cards versus shying away from them. People paid $20 because they liked them via player & looks. The only exception would be the first 60 -80 cards in the Topps Project 2020 set as word of mouth hadn’t occurred yet so PR should be lower and then cards 60 – 120 when people were buying in pure greed / speculation to flip versus to collect.

Just my thoughts and opinions, as these Topps Project 2020 are absolutely hit or miss based in taste.

Collect what you enjoy & what YOU LIKE!!!

  71. John Francis 9 December, 2020 at 22:07

Has anyone gotten a different card from what they ordered I only collect Rickey Henderson and once recieved a Mattingly and once a bob gibson

  72. Upset Topps Customer 11 December, 2020 at 17:48

So who else is fed up with Topps and their mismanagement of this set. Numerous missing cards going back to the mid-100’s, the wrong card delivered rather than what was ordered, and no response from Topps Customer Service when you try to get these issues corrected? They don’t answer the phone, email responses are only form responses…this is by far the worst product roll out I have ever seen. It’s like getting ripped off from a crowd funding project that takes your money and never delivers. At least there you assume some sort of risk when you back a project.

  73. ScottieD 14 January, 2021 at 13:13

    Hi Ryan!
Today I received an added “Bonus Card” in my shipment from TOPPS Project 2020. “JP the Money Bear” from King Saladeen. No card number or anything additional on it. Know anything about it?

    • Ryan Cracknell 14 January, 2021 at 21:14

@Scottie – I think they were 1:20 or so on the final King Saladeen card. They were randomly sent similar to the foils.

  74. S. Lo 18 January, 2021 at 02:46

Hi Ryan. I have a couple of Trout cards signed by Jason ‘’. 2/4 Silver Beam and 2/5 Blackout. There’s also a California Flag Seal next to Project 2020 seal. Any idea who this is?

Also, is the BDH signed acronym Ben Baller’s? Thanks for any help you can provide.

    • Ryan Cracknell 18 January, 2021 at 11:04

Sorry, I haven’t followed a lot of the artist autographs. They’ve been doing those on their own. If you check Ben Baller’s Twitter feed, he’s been showing off his cards and signatures so you can probably compare there.

  75. Jason M Sprague 16 April, 2021 at 18:00

I’ve been gobbling them up on ebay. Low low bids for real good cards. I’ve gotten an Ermsy signed ted williams 2/20 and another one 11/20 for $100. You just gotta find them and hope your bids win. I bid on all of the AP and AA that I see. Along with ones other artists have embellished on. Drakee has a heck of a collection he put out. All 1/1. Beautiful cards. Ive snagged 4 so far. But like I said just look all over ebay. You’ll get some steals.

  76. Jose E Perez 6 November, 2022 at 08:24

I have two different cards of Roberto Clemente printed in gold on the back 1/1. Each one is identified as a gold card. Are these cards a real one of one card and nobody has a similar card? How many of this 1/1 gold cards were produced by Topps?
