Superman came to our planet in 1938 thanks to the imagination of writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster in issue #1 of Action Comics. Upper Deck was founded in 1988, releasing their first card set in 1989. The Fleer Brilliants line first hit shelves in 1998 for sports card collectors. In an exciting first of its kind release, all three iconic lines are brought together in a 90-card base set.

The Fleer Brilliants Superman trading card release is the first from Upper Deck focusing solely on Kal-El. The rainbow foil base cards get parallel treatment in Blue, Red, Yellow, Purple and Red Heat Vision, Blue X-Ray, Green Kryptonite, Golden Flight, and Purple Explosion (/1).

Inserts include Classic Covers (1:15 packs), highlighting tentpole comic book releases like Superman #1, Action Comics #252, Superman #233, Superman: The Secret Years #4, The Man of Steel #1, and more.

A superhero can’t fight crime without a nemesis; Upper Deck has created a villains’ row in the 15-card Superman Revenge Squad line with cards found one in every three packs. Among the names fans can’t forget: Lex Luthor, Brainiac, Doomsday, General Zod, Livewire, Atomic Skull, Bizzaro, and more.

Other key inserts for collectors in the set include Powered by the Sun, Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow, and The Last Son of Krypton, showcasing Superman through the years.

2025 Fleer Brilliants Superman Checklist Overview

Base cards come three per pack, but the chase will send enthusiasts to multiple stores to find desired cards. Blue parallels are found one per Wal-Mart blaster pack, Red parallels are found one per Target blaster pack, Yellow parallels are found one per Game Stop blaster pack, and Purple parallels are found one per Mega Box pack.

Other chase cards are harder to come by due to print run. Red Heat Vision parallels are serial numbered to 1,938 but are randomly inserted into all packs. Others include Blue X-Rays are /999, Green Kryptonite cards /499, Golden Flight /24.

The big hit card, Purple Explosion, can be found randomly inserted in any pack. This dynamo card is a rare 1/1.

Illuminators insert cards are found 1 in 64 packs. The parallels, Red (/99) and Green (/25), are made even tougher with each found in different boxes. Illuminators Red is found in blasters and Green can be ripped in Megas.

Prized Powered by the Sun are found 1:60 packs, Powered by the Sun Gold 1:213, and Powered by the Sun Black 1:320.
