2025 Donruss Optic Football SSP Chase is On
With some retail formats already available, the chase has been on for 2025 Donruss Optic football SSP inserts and case hits, but the quest ratchets up today with the hobby release of the annual chromium product.
The flagship Donruss product has been the home to many rare inserts for years, and some of those same concepts get a premium upgrade in Donruss Optic, giving collectors even more versions of their favorite cards to collect.
In addition to tough parallels from the expansive base rainbow and autographs of many of their favorite veterans and rookies, collectors will also be on the lookout for rare inserts and parallels from six concepts:
- Downtown
- Downtown Duos
- Downtown Legends
- Rookie Kings
- Sunday Kings
- Uptown
Base versions of each of these inserts are tough enough to find, but the chase continues with several tiers of scarce parallels that cover each checklist.

2025 Donruss Optic SSP And Case Hit Inserts

Downtown
When Downtown inserts first hit Donruss Optic packs in 2018, all collectors could find were base inserts and 1/1 Gold Vinyl parallels. As the insert gained popularity, Panini began to offer additional parallels in 2021. Now in their eighth year overall, the love for Downtown inserts hasn’t fallen off, and collectors have a variety of players to find on this year’s checklist. It takes 10 rookies, 9 current stars, and 6 retired greats to complete a set of these cards that feature illustrated backgrounds based on things like a player’s city, team name, or nickname.

Downtown Duos
What’s better than one player’s Downtown card? A card with two players, of course. Introduced in 2024, Downtown Duos bring together pairs of players from the same team. This year’s 15-card checklist most often includes one player from the past and one from the present on the same card. There are some exceptions, including two player/coach options (Ben Roethlisberger/Bill Cowher and Patrick Mahomes/Andy Reid), one legends combo (Emmitt Smith/Michael Irvin), one current combo (Luther Burden III/Rome Odunze), and one single-player combo (Travis Hunter).

Downtown Legends
Downtown Legends is another alternate take on Downtown inserts added in 2024. The 10-card checklist includes only retired greats, with seven of them making their first appearance on a Downtown card: Charles Woodson, Devin Hester, Richard Sherman, Thurman Thomas, Mike Alstott, Ricky Williams, and Jerome Bettis. These cards are distinguishable from legends on the base Downtown checklist by their black-and-white illustrations.

Rookie Kings
The 2025 NFL rookie class collectively had a strong year, and many of the players who made that happen are part of the Rookie Kings insert in Donruss Optic. Inspired by street art, these cards feature “Rookie Kings” stenciled across a neon, spray-paint style streak. The black-and-white photos combined with the bright paint color – including a handful of accents in the upper half of the card – make for a clean design behind a reflective holographic shine.

Sunday Kings
Taking the exact same approach in design as Rookie Kings but with veteran stars in mind is Sunday Kings. Unlike the Rookie Kings, which debuted in 2023, the Sunday Kings set made its first appearance in 2024. The 2025 checklist includes 30 cards, which are split between current standouts (20) and retired legends (10).

Uptown
Uptown inserts debuted in 2024 as Uptowns and deliver a similar idea as Downtown inserts but do so with more design elements. The cards feature a theatre marquee that announces Uptown, along with a player’s name and team. Each card then has a unique jagged cut-out illustration in the background. The 25-card checklist is rookie heavy (15 cards) but also includes active stars (7) and legends (3).
