2024 Topps Update Series Baseball Series Surprises Include Aaron Judge and Paw Patrol
Variations and surprises aren’t quite as abundant as they were a couple of years ago in Topps’ flagship baseball line. With Topps shifting to Golden Image Variations for all of the flagship base cards, the number of unannounced SSPs has shrunk dramatically. But that doesn’t mean there still are some cards left off the checklists released by the card maker. 2024 Topps Update Series Baseball has some, most notably a couple of cards of Aaron Judge as seen on the Paw Patrol spinoff Rubble & Crew.
Here’s a quick look at the unannounced 2024 Topps Update Series Baseball Easter Eggs.
2024 Topps Update Series Paw Patrol Aaron Judge
Aaron Judge joined the Paw Patrol Universe with an appearance on an episode of Rubble & Crew. Originally airing at the end of August, the Yankees slugger found himself stuck in a magical place called Builder Cove where dogs speak. Unable to make it to a home run derby, Judge and friends whip together a stadium of their own.
Two Paw Patrol Aaron Judge cards are available in 2024 Topps Update Series Baseball, #PP1- and PP-2. Both, appropriately, go with the animated version of the 2022 American League MVP.
SSP Variations
The Golden Image Variations offer up different photos for all 350 base cards. But there is (at least) one traditional SSP. Jazz Chisholm Jr. isn’t in the main base set. However, his first flagship Yankees card is available as a variation for #US1.
Chisholm was traded to New York from Miami at the end of July. This was presumably too late to get him into the main part of the product.
The CMP code on the back, which is often used to confirm variations, is left blank.
It’s possible Update Series may have more variations.
Odds for both the Chisholm variation and Aaron Judge Paw Patrol cards are not known.
Numbering Mistake
It’s not overly noticeable or even significant in the grand scheme of things, but there is a mistake with the base set’s Black parallels. Keeping with continuity (not to mention 2024 Series 1 and Series 2), they should be numbered to 73.
They’re not.
It’s possible that each Black parallel still has 73 copies but the actual serial number says 74. And some do go up to the 74th copy.
