2024 SkyBox Metal Universe Champions is where athletes from across the sporting spectrum meet modern sports card designs. The checklist brings some familiar names, both in the players and the product’s themes, but plenty of new elements as well. Yes, that includes Precious Metal Gems.

2024 SkyBox Metal Universe Champions Checklist Overview

The base set has 150 total cards. The first 100 is the standard shell set with Stellar Cartography making up the balance. The high number subset is a modest short print with one landing every other pack.

Athletes come from all corners of sports including basketball, baseball, football, soccer, tennis, golf and even pickleball.

Parallels include:

  • Aqua – 1:2 blaster packs
  • Silver Dots – /299 (blasters only)
  • Red Precious Metal Gems – /100
  • Pink FX – /75
  • Blue Precious Metal Gems – /50
  • Orange FX – /25
  • Green Precious Metal Gems – /10
  • Gold Precious Metal Gems – 1/1

Some cards also get the autograph treatment (1:50 packs, Stellar Cartography – 1:240 packs) that also have Gold parallels with 25 or fewer copies.

An iconic image of one of the hobby’s most popular athletes of all-time, Michael Jordan, has a special SP base card. The Jumpman MJ uses one of the earliest photos of the pose that would go on to become the Air Jordan logo. It was previously used as an oversized card in a 1985 Nike promo set. The Jumpman SP has Red (/100) and Green (/10) PMGs as well.

New Discoveries (1:13 packs) is one of the fresh inserts on the 2024 SkyBox Metal Universe Champions checklist. Athletes one these are emerging young stars in their respective sports.

Scoring Magnets (1:9 packs) is another debut.

SkyBox Premium (1:5 packs) returns with a new batch of inserts. The parallels for these are a little different to others in the product with Star Rubies (/100), Star Sapphire (/75), Star Opal (/49), Star Emerald (/25), Star Amethyst (/10) and Star Diamond (1/1).

E-X inserts are a box hit at 1:15 hobby packs. Essential Credentials Now and Essential Credentials Then parallels come with varied numbering.

Z-Force (1:5 packs) is another 1990s brand that appears as an insert here. Drawing inspiration from the original are its Rave (/150), Super Rave (/50), Galaxy Rave (/25) and Universe Rave (1/1) versions.

Fresh Foundations cards land every other pack and have a parallel lineup similar to the base set.

Tough inserts on the checklist include Power Conductors (1:180 packs), Quasars (1:450 packs), Jambalaya (1:540 packs) and Metal-X (1:720 packs).

Gravitational Pull (1:2,100 packs) get a follow-up release from their 2023 debut. These have a tab that pulls out, creating a moving pattern in the background.

It wouldn’t be a Metal Universe release without some direct throwbacks. Here, it’s Retro 1999-00 Metal Universe (1:5 packs). These add further PMGs to the overall checklist as well with Red (/100) and Green (/10) versions.
