As sports trading card manufacturers have continued to reimage their offerings to collectors, after seeing the same old parallels again and again, Topps hit it out of the park with their ’55 Bowman Anime subsets. The release merges different platforms and different cultures in a cool and unique way drawing more fans to the chase.
Bowman gave a base ’55 Anime version of 15 different players including Jasson Dominguez, Julio Rodriguez, Masataka Yoshida, Jackson Chourio, Rondal Acuna Jr., Corbin Carroll, Marcelo Mayer, Mookie Betts, Henry Davis, Druw Jones, Mike Trout, Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, Elly De La Cruz, and Jackson Holliday.
The parallels in the set change to Gold Refractors (/50), Anime Orange Refractors (/25), and the harder to find Anime Red Refractors (/5).
All 15 players got the 1-of-1 treatment ’55 Bowman Anime Superfractors.
As one might expect, most that have landed the 1-of-1 Superfractors have held onto them.
During a Goldin Auctions, a 2024 Bowman’s Best #BA-19 Wyatt Langford ’55 Bowman Anime Superfractor sold on March 29 for $5,975 after 15 bids. A 2024 Bowman Chrome ‘55 Anime Superfractor #BA8 Mookie Betts is listed for $8,000 on eBay.
The Player Behind the Card
Holliday has the baseball bloodlines that have attracted collectors. Holliday’s grandfather was a longtime NCAA baseball coach (Oklahoma State, Texas, NC State, and Auburn). His father, Matt, was a seven-time All-Star and four-time Silver Slugger playing with Colorado, Oakland, St. Louis, and the New York Yankees.
Jackson was the top pick in the 2022 MLB Draft out of Oklahoma quickly working through the minors carrying a .321 batting average. The Baltimore Orioles called up their top prospect on April 10, 2024, playing him at second base. Holliday hit .189 through 60 games in 2024 but is off to a strong start in 2025 hitting .268. In 43 games this season, he’s already outslugged his rookie numbers with six dingers, 67 total bases, and 41 hits.
