2022 Topps Triple Threads Baseball Sticks with the Familiar

If you know about Triple Threads, then you get the gist of 2022 Topps Triple Threads Baseball. The line doesn’t typically change a lot beyond the odd tweak here and there. It doesn’t really have to. It has carved out a niche for offering lots of low-numbered hits and the temptation at some truly impressive pieces and multi-player combinations. That’s exactly what’s going on here as well.

The configuration sticks to a similar format as the past several years with hobby boxes consisting of two distinct packs, at least as far as hits go. One pack has an autographed triple relic plus a jumbo relic. The other has either a rookie autograph or an autographed jumbo relic as well as a triple relic. So matter the pack, you’re going to get a triple-something and a second hit.

2022 Topps Triple Threads Checklist: What to Expect

While most of the attention will be on the autographs and memorabilia cards, a base set does still kick things off. It’s not a big one, with just 100 cards covering current and retired players. However, with just three per pack and two packs per (pricey) hobby box, don’t expect to find them in large quantities.

Each pack also has a pair of parallels from a list of:

  • Amethyst – /299
  • Emerald – /259
  • Amber – /199
  • Aquamarine – /150
  • Tourmaline – /125
  • Gold – /99
  • Citrine – /75
  • Onyx – /50
  • Sapphire – /25
  • Printing Plates – 1/1
  • Wood – 1/1

What Kinds of Autographed Triple Relics Are in 2022 Topps Triple Threads Baseball?

Rookies & Future Phenoms Autograph Relics (/99) return for another year. Besides the signature, there are three pieces of memorabilia including one that’s oversized. Amethyst (/75), Emerald (/50), Gold (/35), Onyx (/25), Sapphire (/10), Printing Plates (1/1), Ruby (1/1) and Wood (1/1) make for a sizeable parallel lineup.

Triple Threads Autograph Relics (/27) include three memorabilia windows that list a stat or spell out something connected to the player like a nickname or moment reminder. Parallels for these come in Amber (/18), Gold (/9), Sapphire (/3) and three different types of one-of-ones: Printing Plates, Ruby and Wood.

Triple Threads Autograph Relic Combo cards rank among the brand’s most popular cards. These have signatures and swatches from three different players. Base versions are numbered to 36 with Amethyst (/27), Emerald (/18), Gold (/9), Sapphire (/3), Printing Plates (1/1), Ruby (1/1) and Wood (1/1) following.

2022 Topps Triple Threads Baseball has two other three-person autographed relics. Common Threads Three-Player Triple Auto Relics (/9) have a trio connected by history. Sapphire (/3) and Ruby (1/1) are the lone parallels here. Touch ‘Em All! (/18) opts for game-used base pieces over uniform swatches. Gold (/9), Sapphire (/3) and Ruby (1/1) versions can also be found.

Additional Autographed Relics

While much of the checklist plays into the ‘three’ theme, there are a couple of exceptions that turn it up to 10. Autograph Deca Relic Books have a signature and 10 pieces of memorabilia from one player. Deca Autograph Relic Combo Books fold out to feature 10 players. Both of these have 10 copies each plus Gold (/5) and Ruby (1/1) parallels.

Autograph Single Jumbo Relics have just one swatch, but it’s a big one. Versions include base (/99), Amethyst (/75), Emerald (/50), Gold (/25), Sapphire (/10), and Ruby (1/1).

Windows Into Greatness Autograph Relic Book cards (/5) are back. These are three-panel cards that open up to have four total pieces of memorabilia as well as the signature.

Jumbo Plus and Letter Plus Autograph Relic Books (/3) have three swatches, one of which is a massive patch or premium piece of material.

One-of-one Cut Above Cut Signatures also come with a relic piece. Dual Cut Above Cut Signatures do the same, only with two players.

Rookie Autographs

Rookie Autographs are the only place on the 2022 Topps Triple Threads Baseball checklist where signatures don’t also come with at least one swatch. Base versions have serial numbers as do their Amethyst (/75), Emerald (/50), Gold (/25), Sapphire (/10), Printing Plate (1/1) and Ruby (1/1) parallels.

The Triple Relics of 2022 Triple Threads

A lot of the memorabilia cards in the product fall along similar themes as the autograph relics, just minus the autograph.

Triple Threads Relics and Triple Threads Relics Legends highlight one player. The first group are active while the latter are retired. Triple Threads Relic Combos have basically the same idea only with three players instead of one. For all three of these, base versions are numbered to 36. Parallels include Amethyst (/27), Emerald (/18), Gold (/9), Sapphire (/3) and Ruby (1/1).

Common Threads (/9) and Touch ‘Em All (/18) both get the three-player relic treatment with Sapphire (/3) and Ruby (1/1) parallels. Touch ‘Em All also has Gold (/9).

Rarities and Other Relics

Single Jumbo Relics are just that. Although there’s just one swatch, it is a big one. Base versions have 48 copies. Parallels are available in Amethyst (/36), Emerald (/27), Amber (/18), Gold (/9), Sapphire (/3) and Ruby (1/1).

Deca Relic Combo Books (/10) follow the same ten-player approach as their signed counterparts. Windows Into Greatness Relics (/10) do the same for the three-panel books.
