2021 Topps Series 2 Baseball Keeps the 70th Anniversary Party Going
2021 Topps Series 2 Baseball continues with the 70th anniversary celebrations started in Series 1. Typical for a flagship release, it boasts a large checklist that covers a lot fo ground as well as themes. Much of it carries on from the first set but there are several new elements as well.
Series 2 has the usual two hobby configurations with regular boxes delivering either an autograph, memorabilia card or manufactured relic. Hobby jumbo boxes promise an autograph, a relic and a manufactured relic.
2021 Topps Series 2 Baseball Checklist Overview
The base set adds another 330 cards. This mirrors Series 1 and brings the full 2021 Topps Baseball set up to 660 cards. It has the usual mix of stars and draws from rookies not in the first set. Team cards and Future Stars are among the subsets.
Parallels are vast. Those available in hobby include:
- Rainbow Foil – 1:10 hobby
- Gold Foil – 1:2 hobby jumbo (exclusive)
- Gold – /2021
- Vintage Stock – /99
- Independence Day – /76
- Black – /70 (hobby and hobby jumbo only)

- Father’s Day Blue – /50
- Mother’s Day Pink – /50

Clear parallels return as well, but for just 100 cards. Numbered to 10, these are exclusive to regular hobby packs.
2020 saw a lot of changes in baseball. One of them, gets its own insert set in 2021 Topps Series 2. DH Debuts puts the spotlight on National League players who starred as designated hitters.
Zero to Sixty looks at the league leaders from the shortened 2020 season and compares the numbers with other 60-game stretches.
Significant Statistics dig into the previous season’s advanced stats leaders.
Continuing from Series 1, Topps Platinum Players Die-Cuts attempts a “greatest players of all-time” approach. Another 25 cards here brings the total up to 50.
In addition to their base versions, all four of these have Blue, Black (/299), Platinum Anniversary (/70), Red (/10) and Gold (1/1) parallels. Some cards also have autographs that top out at ten copies each.
Building Off the Past
70 Years of Topps returns with another batch of 70 cards. These use designs from past Topps Baseball sets over the past seven decades. These aren’t reprints. Rather it’s using the past to inspire new cards. Autographs are available for select cards. Chrome versions are exclusive to special hobby jumbo box topper packs. Two of the inserts are in each of the packs with one-of-one Superfractor parallels also available.
Another retro set is 1986 Topps Baseball. Similar to 70 Years of Topps, these delve into a past design. However, this time it’s specific to 1986 Topps Baseball. There’s also a separate but complimentary group of All-Star inserts in Series 2. All 1986 Topps Baseball cards have Blue, Black (/299), Platinum Anniversary (/70), Red (/10) and Gold (1/1) parallels.
For those looking to predict what the 2021 season hold, the Home Run Challenge program returns. Landing one per box, these have a code on the back. Use that code to predict the day the player on the front mashes a home run and you get a special parallel sent in the mail.
Sketch cards are exclusive to 2021 Topps Series 2 Baseball hobby and hobby jumbo packs. Among them are 70 Shaped Sketch Cards that have a die-cut design that’s a silhouette of the Topps logo.
Autographs and Memorabilia Cards
Like other parts of the checklist, 2021 Topps Series 2 Baseball has lots of autographs and memorabilia cards. Some crossover with regular insert sets while others stand on their own.
1986 Topps Baseball Autographs is another place to find the 35-year-old design. These include on-card signatures from past and present players. Parallels include Black (/199), Gold (/50), Red (/25) and Platinum (1/1). 1986 Topps All-Star Autographs take a similar approach, although not necessarily with on-card ink. Both designs come with relic versions as well.
70 Years of Topps Baseball is another place to find signatures from multiple generations of players. Like 1986 Topps Autographs, these have Black (/199), Gold (/50), Red (/25) and Platinum (1/1) parallels. Dual Autographs have just five copies each.
Significant Statistics is another insert set that gets a hits-based upgrade with autographs (/50 or less), autograph relics (/50 or less) and relics (/99 or less).
Major League Materials is both generic and direct in what it delivers — a memorabilia swatch. Parallels include Black (/199), Gold (/50), Red (/25) and Platinum (1/1). Autograph Relics are numbered to 50 or less and have their own Red (/25 or less) and Platinum (1/1) versions.
Topps Reverence Autograph Patch cards continue to be exclusive to hobby. Featuring on-card autographs and a premium swatch, base versions are numbered to 10. Red (/5) and Platinum (1/1) parallels are also available.
In the Name Relics have full letters from the backs of game-worn MLB jerseys.
Hobby and hobby jumbo packs have a couple of exclusive manufactured relic sets.
2021 Rookie Card Patches highlight young players across 2021 Topps Baseball with a patch done to look like the RC logo.
Commemorative World Series Rings (/199) feature players and teams who have won it all.
Both of these sets have additional Platinum Anniversary (/70), Red (/10) and Gold (1/1) parallels. Autographs have ten copies or less.
2021 Topps Series 2 Baseball is part of the Silver Pack program. Hobby boxes have one of the packs while hobby jumbo have two. Inside each are cards not available elsewhere.
