2021 Topps Heritage High Number Baseball Variations Guide
2021 Topps Heritage High Number Baseball Variations continue on with the themes found in the initial release from earlier in the year. That means a lot to keep track of, whether it’s hunting for different photos, subtle color changes, nameplates or even how a player’s position is noted on the back of the card.
All told, 2021 Topps Heritage High Number Baseball has six different types of variations.
Action Image, which are exclusive to hobby, are standard photo changes. 1972 Topps Baseball is heavy on portraits and posed shots. Because it mimics the original, 2021 Topps Heritage Baseball does, too. Action Image Variations change that, though, swapping out the static shots and going with more in-game pictures.
City Uniform Variations are the evolution of popular Throwback Variations. These show players in special uniforms. Like Throwbacks have been for years, these are the toughest of the 2021 Topps Heritage High Number Baseball variations. It’s worth noting that some of the players here do not have base cards in 2021 Heritage High Number. When it comes to retail blasters, these tough variations are 1:7,326 packs.
Returning for another year are Error Variations. These all have intentional mistakes like missing names. Some require a look on the back to locate some sort of subtle change.
Missing Stars and hobby-only Team Name Color Swap both play off of the set’s design. Missing Stars cards remove the icons that bookend both sides of the team name banner on the front. For Color Swaps, you’ll need to look closely at the colors making the 3-D effect in the team name.
Finally, there are Nickname Variations. These simply change the player’s name on the front to a nickname they’re known for.
No Codes Required
A lot of collectors have become accustomed to looking at the small fine print on the back to identify variations in Topps products. Here, you don’t need to.
Continuing with the past few years for Heritage, variations come with a clear label on the back. To check, simply look just below the card number on the reverse. If it’s a variation, it’ll be labelled in the small curved notch. Not only will you know if it’s a variation but exactly what type of SSP it is.

2021 Topps Heritage High Number Team Name Color Swap Variations
Team Name Color Swap Variations are exclusive to hobby packs.
I’ve noticed another variation that isn’t mentioned, or clearly marked on the inside corner of the card. It’s a French text variation. The code on back of the card is 800. Do you have any other details on this?
@Nate – They’re more like a partial parallel, similar to the Chrome cards. They’re list on the checklist here: https://www.beckett.com/news/2021-topps-heritage-high-number-baseball-cards/
I just pulled a Randy Arozarena #663 I can’t find another like it. It was upside down in the pack like an SP card but it’s unlike any I’ve see. The back is a lighter colored higher quality cardboard and in between the stats chart and the copyright it says, “Tampa Bay Rays” Have you seen this or know anything about it?
