It’s a different kind of double-double when it comes to Tim Hortons and hockey cards this season. 2021-22 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Team Canada Hockey cards arrive to coincide with both the World Junior Championships and the Winter Olympics in Beijing.

While the focus is on the Canadian national team, the set up will be largely familiar with those who collected 2021-22 Upper Deck Tim Hortons NHL hockey cards just a few weeks earlier.

As shown on commercials during the World Juniors, the promotion kicks off at Tim Hortons restaurants in Canada starting January 5, the same day as the gold medal game of the World Junior Championships was supposed to take place.

2021-22 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Team Canada Checklist Overview

Packs, which come with three cards, continue to be $1 each per drink purchase (buy one coffee and get one pack for $1, buy three coffees and get three packs for $1 each). Any packs above that limit or on their own are $1.99.

The 2021-22 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Team Canada base set has 100 total cards. Broken up into three sections, the first 70 cards are current players who have represented Canada on the international stage. Next are 15 members of the Women’s National Team. Rounding things out are 15 past legends who have worn the maple leaf in various quests for gold and global glory.

Inserts

Standard inserts take on six themes in 2021-22 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Team Canada Hockey. Most are fairly common, however, there are a couple that offer more of a chase and challenge.

Championship Medals (15 cards, 1:2.5 packs) and Canada’s Captains (15 cards, 1:4 packs) are the easiest to pull. Medals not only highlight gold medal winners, but use it as the basis for its design.

UD Canvas Moments (15 cards, 1:6 packs) aren’t far behind, showcasing some major Team Canada highlights over the years. Photography is the star on these. Whether its a major play or post-game celebration, there’s plenty of emotion conveyed on these.

Program of Excellence (15 cards, 1:8 packs) continues with a name that Upper Deck has used in various Team Canada products since the 1990s. This includes the hobby-centric 2021 Team Canada Juniors release.

From here, things get a little tougher. Timbits to Team Canada has just five cards but land 1:100 packs. Each player was a star at both the Timbits and national team levels. These cards pop thanks to their patterned foil background.

Team Canada Trios has 15 cards with one landing every 24 packs. Done with lenticular technology, looking at these results in a 3-D effect, no special glasses required.

2021-22 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Team Canada Hockey Autographs and Memorabilia Cards

Autographs and memorabilia cards are part of the 2021-22 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Team Canada Hockey checklist. That said, when you consider the promotion’s size and scope, they’re small in number and very hard to pull.

Team Canada Signatures are where the majority of the autographs come from. Landing 1:7,200 packs, Carter Hart and Mitch Marner are among the 15 signers for the set. A combined total of 807 of these cards are available.

Just 150 Maple Leaf Forever Autographs can be found. Falling 1:38,699 packs, this has several Team Canada legends including Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Mark Messier.

Team Canada Autograph Jersey Relics add memorabilia to the mix. Six signers, including Jonathan Toews, Jarome Iginla and Connor McDavid, combine for 150 cards available. Odds on these are 1:38,699 packs.

Tim Hortons spokesmen Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon each have two different standalone autographs as well. Crosby has 96 combined cards while MacKinnon has 52.

With 3,225 total cards available, Team Canada Jersey Relics are the most plentiful premium cards in 2021-22 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Team Canada Hockey. But that doesn’t mean they’re easy to pull. They’re still 1:1,800 packs.Joe Thornton, Mathew Barzal and Patrick Marleau are among the 18 players on the checklist. There’s also Women’s National Team members Marie-Philip Poulin and Rebecca Johnston.

As part of the promotion’s Team Canada Collect to Win program, 24 framed autographed jerseys are also available. Gretzky, Crosby, Martin Brodeur and Phil Esposito are among those available.

All autograph and memorabilia cards are inserted in packs as redemptions. Codes can be redeemed at this website.

2021-22 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Team Canada Hockey Promotion Details

The 2021-22 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Team Canada Hockey is scheduled to run through February 16. However, there’s always the possibility that some restaurants could sell out faster.

Similar to this year’s NHL set, there won’t be any organized trade nights at restaurants due to the ongoing pandemic.

According to the promotion’s details, at least 5.8 million 2021-22 Upper Deck Tim Hortons Team Canada Hockey packs were produced. While that’s a big number, it’s actually only about a third of this year’s NHL set, which had 18.2 million packs.

The program’s rules also suggest a ten pack limit per visit.

Like previous NHL Tim Hortons hockey card sets, there’s also an album to hold the collection in. It comes with ten pages. Albums cost $16.99.

You say the Team Canada Trios individual cards are tougher than the Timbits to Team Canada cards. Not true if the numbers and odds listed are correct.
15×24=360 packs for one each of TCT
5×100=500 packs for one each of Timbits

    • Ryan Cracknell 3 January, 2022 at 23:25

@Rick – It’s very possible they don’t have a deal with Howe’s estate for inclusion in this product.

  2. Denis St-louis 5 January, 2022 at 09:48

The list of trios is wrong. I got T12 in a pack this morning and it appears as T7 in the list.

    • Ryan Cracknell 5 January, 2022 at 10:12

@Denis – Thanks for the heads up. Just did a little looking online to see what was up. Looks like the backs for T12 and T7 got mixed up so for both names on front don’t match the names on the back. I’ll continue to watch as more surface today and update in case it’s all being like that or some.

  3. Denis St-louis 5 January, 2022 at 11:00

Thank you sir. I had not noticed the back doesn’t match at all the front. Nice quality control :)))

  4. John Lemmon 8 January, 2022 at 10:14

I have T12 as well back does not match front
Just pulled Nathan McKinnon timbits card…and only bought 2 packs ….does anyone know how much it is valued at ?

  5. Steve Hoffman 12 January, 2022 at 19:23

Is it true some of the prize winning cards are heavier than regular cards and can be sourced out by weighing them?
    Or is this fake news?

  6. Ryan Mckinlay 14 January, 2022 at 09:58

We also opened the T12 and the back is a T7 wondering if you have heard if upper deck or run Horton would be willing to fix have replacement cards so we have the right fronts and backs ?

  7. Ron 15 January, 2022 at 21:30

Has anyone ever heard of 5 time Norris Trophy winner, Stanley Cup, All time leading defenseman Raymond Bourque? Shea Weber, Shane Corson? They couldn’t tie Ray’s skates. I’m talking about the selection of Team Canada Tim Hortons Cards. Sounds like someone needs help to select players. What do you think?

    • Ryan Cracknell 16 January, 2022 at 11:57

@Ron – It’s not as easy as simply putting a player in a product. There needs to be agreements in place.

  8. Ed Zagar 16 January, 2022 at 00:25

Why was Bobby Orr not included in the Team Canada set? He didn’t play in the 1972 Summit Series, but was named MVP of the 1976 Canada Cup…

    • Ryan Cracknell 16 January, 2022 at 11:58

@Ed – Strong likelihood they didn’t have a deal in place with Orr for this product.

  9. Paul 16 January, 2022 at 11:16

Bought lots of the earlier Tim’s nhl set and now buying this team Canada set. Both very difficult to complete base set. Close to almost half are now doubles. Quality control looks good so far. No surface issues with any of the cards. Though do wish they chose clear or sharper photos for the retired players.

  10. Diane 31 January, 2022 at 09:28

Started buying team Canada cards for my granddaughter to collect. Campaign started Jan 5, 2022 and by Jan 25 stores in Simcoe, and Waterford and many stores in Brantford are out of cards making it almost impossible to collect anywhere near a full set with the many many doubles. Ridiculous!!!
