2021-22 Upper Deck Stature brings a similar focus on elegance, variations and autographs as the brand’s previous two releases. While the number of unique cards might not be a huge number, there are several twists and turns that add parallels and variants throughout including some with autographs and memorabilia.

At the hobby box level, there’s at least one autograph. It’s joined by an insert, a pair of parallels and three base cards (one of which is a rookie). The final card is either a second signature, another parallel or a second rookie.

2021-22 Upper Deck Stature Hockey Checklist Overview

At its most basic, the 2021-22 Upper Deck Hockey base set has 200 cards — 100 total veterans and legends plus 100 serial numbered rookies.

For the first half of the set, standard parallels come in Green (/149), Red (/75), Blue (/35) and Black (/15).

Here’s where things get a little more complicated. Design Variants, which tweak the layout and border have 65 copies each with additional Red (/25) and Purple (1/1) parallels.

2021-22 Upper Deck Stature Hockey Design Variation Red Auston Matthews

Photo Variants (/99) use a different image. Parallels for these come in Green (/66), Red (/33), Blue (/3) and Black (1/1).

Finally, there are Design and Photo Variants that change both things up. Red (/11) and Purple (1/1) versions can be found here, too.

Moving to the second half of the set, base Rookies come numbered to 399 and have Green (/149), Red (/75), Blue (/35) and Black (/15). Design Variants, Photo Variants, and Design and Photo Variants are similar for rookies as they are with the veteran portion of the base set.

Autographed Parallels

Further parallels are available with the addition of on-card autographs.

Base Autographs are 1:16 packs for the first half of the checklist. Rookie Autographs are numbered to 199 or 99. Parallels for all include Green (/50 or /25), Red (/25 or /10), Blue (/10 or /5) and Black (1/1).

2021-22 Upper Deck Stature Hockey Rookie Autographs Blue Trevor Zegras

Photo Variant Autographs land 1:32 packs for vets and legends. Rookies have just 49 copies each. Additional parallels are Green (/10), Red (/5), Blue (/3) and Black (1/1).

Design Variants have autographed memorabilia versions, all of which have serial numbers. Red Patch and one-of-one Purple Patch versions join them.

Design and Photo Variant Autograph Patch versions also exist. Veteran and retired players are numbered to 5 while rookies have eight copies each. Further parallels include Red (base /2, rookies /4) and Purple (1/1).

Additional Inserts and Autographs

Not all of the cards in 2021-22 Upper Deck Stature Hockey play off the base set design and structure. The checklist does have some other inserts.

Rookie Excellence (1:2 packs) is another place to find standout first-year players. Basic parallels arrive in Green (/125), Red (/75), Blue (/15) and Black (1/1). Autographs are 1:14 packs and have their own Green (/25), Red (/10), Blue (/3) and Black (1/1) versions. Patch Auto cards are also available with further Red (/5) and Purple (1/1) parallels.

Legendary Heights (1:4 packs) debuts with a checklist that’s exclusively all-time greats. Gravitas (1:4 packs) returns with another collection of veteran stars. Parallels for both of these are similar with Green (/125), Red (/75), Blue (/15) and Black (1/1) kicking things off. Legendary Heights Autographs are 1:115 packs while Gravitas Autographs are 1:130. Green (/15), Red (/5), Blue (/3) and Black (1/1) signatures are also randomly inserted along with tough Patch Autographs that have additional Red (/3) and Purple (1/1) parallels.

I’m sorry, but it’s embarrassing for Upper Deck to be releasing so many 2021-22 sets well after the 2022-23 season has ended. I understand there were issues that caused delays, but at some point they should just cancel the releases and focus on 2022-23 (which would also be too late at this point), or better yet, 2023-24 releases.
I really think that cards of players who were rookies in the 2021-22 season should not be given the “RC” tag when the cards are released eight months into 2023.
