2020 Topps Wacky Packages Old School Series 9 Hits the ’80s
2020 Topps Wacky Packages Old School Series 9 is a little more new-school than past retro Wacky sets. It moves into the 1980s, bringing with it new products to poke fun at.
Part of the Topps On-Demand program, it’s exclusive to the company’s website. Available for one week or while supplies last, each set costs $150. Inside each? A full 31-card base set, 18 total parallels, eight inserts and three sketch cards.
The main set has 31 cards. In typical Wacky Packages fashion, these spoof consumer goods. From food to cleaning products and even some of Topps’ own releases, it’s a nostalgia trip for those who came of age during the Reagan years. Because the era saw a rise in licensed goods where things like cereal and movies crossed over, this also provides some Wacky opportunities that hit on multiple fronts. Here, it means nods to The Goonies, Gremlins, Pac-Man and more.
2020 Topps Wacky Packages Old School Series 9 has two types of parallels. Tan Back are ten per set. There’s also eight Red Ludlow Back per set.
Graduation Photos inserts take classic Wacky Packages from the 1970s and cast them against the iconic photo day laser background. The idea here is to re-imagine the characters as high schooler moving on. There are 20 different Graduation Photos with eight landing in every set.
