Lionel Messi has long controlled things on the field. Now he’s controlling a set of soccer cards. 2020 Topps Designed by Lionel Messi is a collaboration between the Barcelona superstar and the card maker.
Available for a limited time as an online exclusive, Messi offered his input into both what the cards look like and who should be on them.
2020 Topps Designed by Lionel Messi Soccer is a 50-card box set. The checklist has three sections. A total of 40 Champions League players are found in the Top Talent and Youth on the Rise subsets.
Of course, a set by Lionel Messi should have some Lionel Messi cards. That’s where the ten remaining cards come into play. Greatest Goals and Moments has highlights from his career.
The box set is available in two versions. A basic version, which costs $25 on the Topps website, has the 50-card set. There’s also an autograph version that, for $500 has a Lionel Messi autograph as well.
The autographs are essentially high-end parallels of the Greatest Goals and Moments cards. Base versions have ten copies each. There are also additional Blue (/4) and Gold (1/1) autograph parallels.
Topps has done a handful of collaborations like this with other athletes including Bryce Harper and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
