2019 Topps Star Wars: Journey to the Rise of Skywalker Details and What to Look For

2019 Topps Star Wars: Journey to the Rise of Skywalker trading cards take one last recap to lay the groundwork for the saga’s (possibly) final film.

Like recent “Journey” sets for The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, this one borrows from the past beyond covering previous films. Most of the designs are nods to the early days of Topps’s Star Wars trading card line.

2019 Topps Star Wars: Journey to the Rise of Skywalker Base Set Basics

Over 110 cards, the base set looks back at all the previous films and other areas that have helped build up the story. There are also cards that preview The Rise of Skywalker. That said, it’s probably safe to say that there won’t be any major spoilers or major revelations.

The look of the set is based off the original 1977 Topps Star Wars design and its starfield borders.

Parallels come in several border colors starting with Green, which are one per pack and Silver (1:4). Hobby-exclusive versions include Black (/199), Orange (/50), Gold (/25) and Imperial Red (1/1). One-of-one Printing Plates are also available.

Autographs and Other Inserts

Sketch cards are among the hits in the product. Thematically, these cover characters from the whole of the Star Wars universe.

2019 Topps Star Wars: Journey to the Rise of Skywalker does have Commemorative Patch Cards, although the card maker has not released a theme for them as of yet. Parallel versions come in Black (/99), Orange (/50), Gold (/25) and Red (1/1). There are also autographs and their own Red (1/1) cards.

The product also has five regular insert sets that combine to land one per hobby pack. Character Stickers return, offering another nod to the original 1977 card release.

Additional insert themes are Character Cards, Illustrated Character Cards, Schematics and a Kylo Ren Continuity set that will carry over to other releases.

For these inserts, Printing Plates are the lone parallels.

Autographs are guaranteed to land one per hobby box. The design is similar to the one the stickers use.

Parallels, which can be seen by the thick color border around the character, are Black (/99), Orange (/50), Gold (/25), Printing Plates (1/1) and Red (1/1).

Multi-autograph cards can be found with two, three and six signatures.
