2019-20 Panini Contenders Optic Basketball takes aspects from a couple of areas and combines to be something that’s both more shiny and more premium leaning. The main Contenders set is the foundation, albeit using opti-chrome stock.
Hobby boxes are on the smaller side with just six cards. But even with the size, there’s a good amount of variety inside with one autograph and four total inserts or parallels. That leaves just one spot for a regular base card.
2019-20 Panini Contenders Optic Basketball Overview
For many, the heart of the set are the Rookie Season Ticket Autographs. Done on chrome stock, they put a different spin on the cornerstone Rookie Cards. It also means the opportunity for some different parallels, which take a colorful approach. Gold Vinyl are the rarest with just one copy each.
Veteran Ticket Autographs highlight some of the top players in the NBA. Like the rookies, there are multiple parallels.
Another place on the checklist that has vets — as well as retired players — are 1982 Tribute Autographs.
Contenders Optic has a handful of additional non-autograph inserts. Uniformity uses players’ jerseys as a backdrop. Historic Picks pair up players who went in the same spot of the draft, albeit in different years. The Slam Dunk Competition gets the spotlight in Historic Dunks. All-Star Aspirations is another chase set that makes its Contenders Optic debut. All of these come with multiple parallels as well.
The die-cut Superstars set returns, including Gold (/10) and Gold Vinyl (1/1) parallels.
