2018 Topps Star Wars Galactic Files Variations take a bit of a different approach. They’re actually new, short print versions of base cards from 2017 Galactic Files Reborn (at least all are that have been confirmed thus far).

2018 Topps Star Wars Galactic Files Variations

The idea behind the cards is that they offer different images. Also, the longer odds and smaller print runs add for something of a chase.

Variations are common in Topps’ baseball sets. While this isn’t the first time for Star Wars, they’re not used nearly as often. But what really makes these ones different is the fact that the SSP cards come from a separate release. For the most part, this should make spotting them easier.

Topps did not include the variation short prints on the 2018 Star Wars Galactic Files checklist. This is normal as they usually prefer to use them as a surprise sort of element. As a result, the exact number of SSP cards still isn’t known.

Confirming If You Have a 2018 Topps Star Wars Galactic Files Variation Short Print

Without memorizing the checklist and what’s in 2018 Galactic Files and 2017 Galactic Files Reborn, there is an easy way on the back to know if you have a variation. The small copyright info on the back has a code at the end. This is intended for production, but it does identify different types of cards.

For 2018 Topps Star Wars Galactic Files Variations, you’re looking for the code to end in 826. Base cards end in 808. But because variants cover cards from the previous set, it’s helpful to know that code, too. 2017 Galactic Files Reborn base cards end in 443.

Code Cheat Sheet:

  • 2018 Base – 808
  • 2017 Base – 443
  • Variations – 826
