2018 Topps Premier League Platinum Soccer Brightens Things Up with Refreshed Line
Topps Platinum is back. The brand has been on a bit of a break following Topps’ exit from the NFL market (for physical cards). 2018 Topps Premier League Platinum Soccer brings with it the same foil emphasis that set the line out during its earlier days.
Hobby boxes come packaged in a mini box format. A master box has a dozen packs, which are divided into a pair of six-pack mini boxes.
In addition to autographs and memorabilia cards, the checklist also has some inserts and a handful of parallels.
Base Set
The 2018 Topps Premier League Platinum Soccer base set consists of 100 cards. All 20 of the PL’s franchises are represented equally with five cards each.
Card backs take more of a write-up approach than stats. Each player has a mini bio written about them and some of their accomplishments.
Parallels come in five versions. Four are minor adjustments to the foil color: Green (/99), Purple (/50), Orange (/25), and Red (/10). The rarest parallels, Holographic Foil, have just one copy each. These have a patterned foil background.
The 2018 Topps Premier League Platinum Soccer has a trio of additional subsets. Global Stars is the biggest of the three with 40 cards. Landing 1:4 packs, these include a pair of players from each PL team.
New Signings (20 cards, 1:4 packs) spotlights a fresh face on every team.
Finally, there’s Icons (20 cards, 1:6 packs). These take the best player from each franchise.
Subsets also have parallels, including Purple (/50) and FoilFractors (1/1).
Autographs and Memorabilia Cards
According to Topps, autographs are one per mini box. A full list of signers hasn’t been released but the following are listed are being part of the product: Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Kyle Walker, Harry Kane, Eric Cantona, Olivier Giroud, Aaron Ramsey and Riyad Mahrez.
Parallels are similar to the main set with Green (/100), Orange (/25) and Red (/10). FoilFractors are one-of-ones.
Relic cards come with a piece of a player jersey.
