2018 Topps New Era Baseball Checklist and Promo Details

Share:

2018 Topps New Era Baseball is a promo set that looks a lot like the flagship release. But getting the cards is not nearly as easy. The promo set, which is a partnership between the card and cap makers, is only available in packs from MLB team shops. And even then, just a few teams are participating.

2018 Topps New Era Baseball Base Set

The main base set has 32 cards. For a promo set, that’s pretty big, but it’s not massive. Cards have the same design as 2018 Topps Baseball giving the impression of more variations. But the numbers on the back are a giveaway that they’re different.

Tying in with the cap promotion, photos feature the New Era logo on the players’ caps.

Inserts

2018 Topps New Era Baseball is more than just a base set. Inserts are available, too.

These start with more 1983 Topps Baseball inserts. All 20 on the checklist are retired players. The 35-year-old design is used, much like it has been for several 2018 Topps products. Like the base set, players here double-up from earlier inserts. Once again, the numbers on the back are different so they’re not variations in the traditional sense.

New Era Performers Relics (/99) are randomly inserted 1:67 packs. Parallel versions come with different patches at extremely long odds. Autographed versions are 1:3,572 packs.

2018 Topps New Era Baseball Packs: How to Get Them

According to Topps, New Era promo packs are only available at select ballparks: Kansas City, Chicago (Cubs and White Sox), San Diego, St. Louis and Philadelphia. So the original distribution area is small.

Packs, which come with eight cards, were given for buying both a New Era cap and Topps cards at the stadium shop.

Not surprisingly, some have shown up on eBay. But the majority of those are coming from only a couple of sellers.
