2016 Topps WWE Heritage Checklist and Details
In 1986, professional wrestling was hitting massive heights, still in the midst of Hulk Hogan’s reign at the top. 2016 Topps WWE Heritage heads back to the year, but largely for its design inspiration. As far as content goes, it’s primarily a mix of the current wrestling scene and a look back at the Attitude Era of the Monday Night Wars between the WWE and WCW.
2016 Topps WWE Heritage hobby boxes have two total autographs, memorabilia cards, manufactured patch cards and Printing Plates.
Base Set
The 2016 Topps WWE Heritage base set has 110 cards. Superstars, Divas, NXT prospects and retired stars are all portrayed on the 1986 Topps Baseball design. The baseball set is used as inspiration throughout the release.
Parallels keep up with the recent trend of naming them after WWE belts: Tag Team Championship Bronze (/99), hobby-only Divas Championship Silver (/50), United States Championship Blue (/25), Intercontinental Championship Gold (/10) and WWE World Heavyweight Championship Red (1/1). Printing Plates are also inserted.
Autographs and Relics
2016 Topps WWE Heritage autographs come with signatures from both current and retired wrestlers. The checklist reaches into the NXT roster as well. Silver parallels can be found on in hobby packs.
Dual Autographs are just as they suggest, cards with a pair of signatures.
Select Divas, past and present, are included on Diva Kiss cards. These have lipstick imprints on the cards. While this style of card has been around for more than a decade, it’s the first time they’ve been produced on Heritage card stock. Autographed Diva Kiss cards are also inserted.
Memorabilia cards come in a couple of different forms. Swatch Relics have clothes worn by wrestlers and use the same basic design as the base set. Survivor Series 2015 Mat Relics come with canvas from the pay-per-view done with the “Team Leaders” subset design. WWE NXT UCF Special Mat Relics come from a taping at the University of Central Florida.
Commemorative Patch cards look at different promotions in the WWE portfolio. WWE, WWE Legends, WCW, nWo, ECW and NXT each have separate embroidered logo patches and five different stars.
Inserts
Much of the basic inserts in 2016 Topps WWE Heritage look to the past for their inspiration and subject matter. WCW/nWo All-Stars has 40 cards, all of whom represent some of the best WCW had to offer. Record Breakers highlight 30 of the greatest achievements in both WWE and WCW.
Turn Back the Clock reprints 30 cards produced by Topps and their UK arm, Merlin between 1985 and 1999. All ten series the company made are showcased in the set.
All-Stars, Record Breakers and Turn Back the Clock are all inserted one per hobby pack.
The Rock Tribute set (1:6 packs) continues with another ten cards looking at career highlights. This set has been ongoing in sets throughout 2016.
