2016 Topps Warcraft Movie trading cards feature all the beasts you’d expect

By Ryan Cracknell | Hobby Editor
Update (May, 2016): Topps has announced that the set has been cancelled.
The Warcraft movie isn’t just invading theaters. It’s getting cards as well. 2016 Topps Warcraft isn’t an offshoot of the card game. Rather it’s a traditional non-sport release that delves into the fantasy world created by the movie. As such, it has all the fixings of a modern release: autographs, relics, sketch cards, manufactured patch cards.
Two total premium cards are in each hobby box.
Base Set
The 100-card base set takes a synopsis approach, re-telling the main points of the film’s story. Added depth and behind-the-scenes looks, which are typical for a lot of movie sets, are saved for inserts.
Base cards have several parallels of varying rarities. 2016 Topps Warcraft hobby boxes have Alliance Blue (1:4 packs), Horde Red (1:24), Mage Light Blue (/10) and Forge Gold (1/1).
Inserts

It’s the inserts where much of the world of Warcraft is fleshed out, digging into the complex fantasy world the film inhabits. These include Battle (nine cards), Character (18 cards), Races & Creatures (nine cards), Groups & Clans (nine cards), Weapons (nine cards), and The Magic of Azerath (nine cards).
One-on-One Combat (nine cards) showcase some of the film’s best fights.
Character Concept Art (nine cards) is a hobby-exclusive insert that spotlights pre-production artwork.
Character inserts are 1:4 hobby packs. Other basic inserts are each 1:8 packs. That means every pack should have at least one.
Autographs

2016 Topps Warcraft autographs come in a few different forms, all of which appear to use stickers for the signatures. Basic autographs feature cast and crew.
Dual and hobby-only Triple Autographs have ink from multiple signers.
Autographed Printing Plates are also randomly inserted.
It’s important to note that while Topps has released mock-up images of what potential autograph cards may look like, they haven’t confirmed any of the signers as of yet.
Relic Memorabilia Cards

Relics in the product are a mix of costumes, props and scenery using in the Warcraft‘s production. All are serial numbered and come with parallels.
Autographed Relics take a similar approach only with the addition of the signature.
Other Premium Inserts

Rounding out the 2016 Topps Warcraft checklist are a couple of other premium inserts. Commemorative Faction Flag Patch cards use manufactured material to sort the members of the Alliance, Horde and Mages that wage battle against each other.
One-of-one Printing Plates and Sketch Cards are also available.
