2016 Topps Premier Club Soccer targets international collectors
By Ryan Cracknell | Hobby Editor
As big as baseball and football are in North America, soccer is bigger on a worldwide scale. This transfers into the variety of products available outside of the United States and Canada to collectors in other parts of the world — even when the manufacturers are familiar. 2016 Topps Premier Club Soccer comes from their UK arm, targeting collectors in Europe and into Asia.
Not reaching the same high-end heights as Premier Gold, a product available in and out of North America, 2016 Topps Premier Club Soccer still offers three total autographs and memorabilia cards per box.
The base set has 150 cards covering the Barclays Premier League. Every club is featured in the set with cards carrying stats and biographical information. A ten-card Future Stars subset highlights top young talent.
2016 Topps Premier Club Soccer has a total of 50 different Rainbow Foil cards as well, which are broken down into three sets: Captains (20 cards), Star Strikers (20 cards) and Superstars (ten cards).
Autographs and memorabilia cards come from both current and retired players. Wayne Rooney, who recently signed a deal with Topps, is among the signatures available in the product. Here’s a tentative list of those with autographs and memorabilia cards:
- John Barnes
- Sebastien Bassong
- Dennis Bergkamp
- Gary Cahill
- Tom Cleverley
- Jack Colback
- Ashley Cole
- Nathan Dyer
- Steven Fletcher
- Dan Gosling
- Jonny Howson
- Branislav Ivanovic
- Cameron Jerome
- Tim Krul
- Aaron Lennon
- Ruben Loftus-Cheek
- James Milner
- Jack Rodwell
- Wayne Rooney
- Luke Shaw
- Steve Sidwell
- Gylfi Sigurdsson
- Julian Speroni
- Daniel Sturridge
- Patrick van Aanholt
- Jon Walters
- James Ward-Prowse
- Gianfranco Zola
Because of the targeted distribution, it will likely require American and Canadian collectors to do a little more work in tracking down boxes and the set.
