2016 Topps Heritage Baseball Variations Gallery, Checklist
The 2016 Topps Heritage Baseball variations and short prints have some things that are new and some things that are familiar with the brand. Coming in several different styles, the variations cover a lot of ground.
Action Image, Color Swap and Throwback Uniforms were announced ahead of 2016 Topps Heritage Baseball‘s release. These are all carry overs for the brand and have been around for several years. Action Image Variations change the photos from the traditional Heritage portrait to something from a game. Color Swaps are easiest to spot with the black team name on the front.
It’s worth noting that Kris Bryant’s base card has the appearance of a throwback jersey. It’s not. Nor is it a short print. That said, he still has a Throwback Variation where he’s batting.
It didn’t take long for the 2016 Topps Heritage Baseball variations to reveal a new style, though. Single-Player Rookie Variations give select standouts with rookie cards in the base set their own card. This is instead of the regular dual-player rookie cards that were used in the original 1967 Topps Baseball set. As far as print runs go, they’re combined with the Action Image variations to land 1:22 hobby packs.
Another new category of variation can be found in the World Series subset. Regular versions have black and white photos. Variations switch to colorized shots.
Errors are back. As with past years, they play off of the errors and variations from the past. In this instance, the 2016 Topps Heritage Baseball Error Variations mimic some of the mistakes and quirks of 1967 Topps Baseball. With the codes in the fine print not acting as a tip for the errors, it can be tough to spot the variations. Or is it?
…the sp/errors/var will pop out immediately as they are white along edges of card; it should not be too hard or close match to others
— Brent Williams (@brentandbecca) March 6, 2016
Similar to Errors are Traded variations. These add a small line of text in the featured player’s vital stats stating they were acquired in the off season. Base cards do not have this line in the vitals. It looks like only a couple of players have these.
We’re busy compiling a full gallery and checklist of all the 2016 Topps Heritage Baseball variations and adding more as they’re confirmed. What we do know is highlighted below.

Correction… The Bryant base is NOT a throwback jersey. The cap (which is probably what caused confusion) is actually the 2015 All Star Game cap.
Thanks for the correction :)
I have opened a case of 2016 heritage I pulled two different Dallas Keuchel cards. I don’t find anything on it. The one is the one where he is in the orange shirt with a blue jacket over one shoulder. The other one he is in a white shirt with the word Astros in red with three red lies abve the Astros and a blue star at the end. Any help
Hi David, If you are able to email me a scan or decent photo of each I can check them out.
I have them on my phone can I text them to you.
If you’re able to email to rcracknell@beckett.com or DM me on Twitter (@tradercracks) I can get them easiest.
This isn’t showing up as it should on my iPhone 5s. The right side is cut off of the pictures and the words are cut off on the right side. Please fix this. Is this column not optimized for mobile. No I’m not going to upgrade my phone. Please don’t tell me that’s the solution.
We’re in the middle of some back-end upgrades and they’re still working on some glitches. I’ve noticed them too. Hopefully they’ll be sorted out quickly by the design team. In the meantime, desktops are the best place to look. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I have the chrome Maisel Franco with the throwback photo, has anyone seen one of these? If someone shoots me an email I can send a scan.
We haven’t heard of any Chrome Throwbacks, but if you’d like to send a scan to rcracknell@beckett.com I can check it out.
I pulled a Felix Hernandez throwback from a Wal Mart hanger pack.
I picked up a hobby box, 24 pack one, and there was an Anibal Sanchez action card with what has to be a throw back Tiger uniform on, but dont see it listed. Also I think the Royals manager with a completely different background then Iv seen, a odd rainbow type, neet looking tho. I hate team cards, and political cards also, and a dumb check list waste
I pulled two cards of Santiago Casilla (#37) out of the same box. This was the only duplicate within the box. The two cads appear identical with regard to the photo and format. The difference is that one was printed on the same stock as the rest of the set while the other has a smoother finish. I would equate the difference as being like the difference between Topps and O-Pee-Chee or Topps base set and Topps Traded box sets in the 80s. The only possibility I can come up with aside from being wrong is that this may be a Venezuela variation like those of the past few years. Is that what it is?
It sounds like a Reverse Stock parallel. These basically have the sheet flipped around. The fronts on Reverse Stock cards feel like normal backs and vice versa.
Yeah, I think you’re right. I didn’t know such a thing existed. Is that an error or a planned variation?
They were in Heritage High Number last year so likely planned — just not announced in advance.
Hi, are 451-500 short prints?
#426-500 are short prints.
Thanks Ryan!
First, I didn’t like the Heritage cards, cause I just started collecting baseball cards recently and didn’t really know the concept of this series.
But now, I find it very fun to open each pack, look at this site, and see if I got any error/gum stain/variation cards.
Not just looking for the obvious hits makes it fun for me to open every pack.
The card od dee gordon you got numbered as 245,and his card is 254. 245 is marco estrada
I just got a AL kaline autographed card AK ….nice
