2016 Panini Instant Football Checklist and Details

Share:

2016 Panini Instant Football marks the first set of print-on-demand cards from the company where the launch coincided with the start of a pro season.

Like other Panini Instant products and ones like it, the main idea is to capture events and storylines on cards as they happen with a turnaround time of days rather than months.

To do so, 2016 Panini Instant Football isn’t available in packs. Instead, cards are sold individually through Panini’s online store.

Individual cards are $9.99 each and available for 24 hours. The price-per-card comes down for orders of five ($29.99) and ten ($49.99) copies of the same card. Only cards ordered are printed.

2016 Panini Instant Football cards come with a couple of other options as well. For $25, collectors can have a facsimile signature added to select cards. These are not real autographs, but it may appeal to some as it creates a more limited parallel version.

Speaking of parallels, there are those, too. Like other sets in the Panini Instant line, there are color-based versions that have stated print runs. They include Orange (/50, $24.99), Blue (/25, $49.99), Purple (/10, $74.99), Green (/5, $99.99) and Black (1/1, $149.99). Starting with card 110, the Orange, Blue and Green parallels were dropped and the prices for the remaining two dropped. Purple became $49.99 and some Black cards went down to $99.99. Top names remain $149.99.

Throughout the season and during the post-season, several themed cards and sets were also introduced. They’re noted below.

More cards will be added as they’re released. Known print runs for base cards are noted. Missed a card or want to see what’s available? Click on the links to check out eBay listings for specific cards.

Post-season team sets were available for 72 hours starting December 9 for $29.99. They have Purple (/10, $199.99) and Black (1/1, $499.99) parallels.

New England Patriots Super Bowl Team Set (#889-924), Super Bowl LI Highlights (#925-927) and Super Bowl Record Breakers (#928-932) have Burgundy (/199), Yellow (/99), Orange (/50), Blue (/25), Purple (/10) and Black (1/1) parallels.

Parallels:

• Orange – /50 (#1-109 only)
• Blue – /25 (#1-109 only)
• Purple – /10
• Green – /5 (#1-109 only)
• Black – 1/1

#9 Carson Wentz base card has a print run of 230

Also the /5 (and I would assume the higher numbered parallels) come with numbering as well (like 1 of 5 or 2 of 5) on the back while all base cards will say the same thing on the back like 1 of 230. The base cards are not individually numbered like regular cards are 001/230, 002/230, etc they just indicate the number of printed cards that you have one of.

So far, in my experience, turnaround times from order to delivery (with the free priority mail post office shipping) has been about 9-10 calendar days)

As a follow up to my earlier comment, I must say the turnaround time has slowed down DRAMATICALLY. I ordered some WENTZ #46 cards on 9/22 and I just received notice that they shipped 10/6 (2 weeks just to be shipped), so about 17-18 days for actual delivery.

Grading wise, I got a mixed bag when I submitted some of my cards to Beckett Grading. One green card (/5) which arrived in a hard lucite card case only graded a 9. I was a bit disappointed in Panini for that since I paid $$$$ for the card and it came directly from them. I never even took it out-I just submitted it for grading in the lucite card holder. Another green one (/5) graded a 9.5. Felt better about that one. Of the 3 regular cards, I got two 9.5 and one 10. Nice. Overall, uneven in the card gradings so far for my Panini Instant cards. Would’ve thought they’d be better not having been in a pack, etc. I submitted 10 Topps Now cards and got 1 9, 7 9.5, and 2 10s for comparison.

No cards of the last two Chiefs games, two of the most exciting games of the year. Berry picking off the 2 point conversion and running it in for the win against the Falcons, and nothing?

When I talked with a Panini rep about the delay in shipping my Black Friday 10-card Rookie Set, they said that there were 179 total sets made. I do not know if the backs are numbered like the rest of the instant cards or not.
