2016 Leaf Babe Ruth Header

By Ryan Cracknell | Hobby Editor

Despite the fact that he played before most of us were born, Babe Ruth remains a larger-than-life baseball icon. This also comes despite the fact there isn’t much video footage of him either. Instead we have to rely on other forms of storytelling like words and pictures to keep his legend strong. 2016 Leaf Babe Ruth Collection does just that, offering a detailed look at the life and times of the Sultan of Swat.

The base set has 80 covering Ruth’s entire career and his life.

It’s joined by a pair of ten-card inserts. Quotables highlights some of the nuggets of wisdom The Babe offered. Career Achievements cards note the impression Ruth left on the record books.

Memorabilia cards land at a rate of two per 20-box case. They come in the form of game-used bats from Ruth’s days in both Boston and New York as well as Yankee Stadium seat relics from Ruth’s era.

Memorabilia cards are done as parallels. For both the Boston and New York bats, they have separate 80-card parallels of the base set numbered to 3 and 1/1. The Yankee Stadium seat relics are also done as base set parallels.

One collector will find a one-of-one Babe Ruth Cut Signature card.

Like previous athlete-focused releases from the company for Stan Musial and Pete Rose, 2016 Leaf Babe Ruth Collection doesn’t come with a big price tag. The initial suggested retail price is around $30 a box.

2016 Leaf Babe Ruth Collection Baseball at a glance:

Packs per box: 20
Cards per pack: 5
Boxes per case: 20

This will be a nice looking set.. and at least you won’t have to take out a second mortgage on your house to afford a box of these cards….looks like a fun, inexpensive break!

Are these going to be available in the online price guide? I’m not seeing them as of yet. Thank you.

It should be. The set just came out recently so it takes some time to compile the appropriate data.

They are supposed to make a set one sub set of Quotable s, the other career achievements an a set of 1 to 80. But beware of double cards that will leave your set one or two cards short of the complete set. Has anyone found anything of value yet? Bought 3 of them so far an nothing.

I bought a box set..no doubles. I found on eBay and other site check out the value of these cards.
Found they are and have increase value, but expected for the legend, one that already has value is no. 34 I think with Ruth’s career in the red Sox’s, $799.00, on ebay .
I also think one’s with value will be the one’s that Ruth is with either fans or a athlete, or club owners. Such as with the Yankees owner.

I bought a box at Walmart and pulled a game-used bat card #2/3 in the first pack I opened. I was super excited!

I bought a box and got a 1 of 1, card 1, game used Boston bat, any thoughts on value? Also, if your box has a relic card, your set will be 5 cards short.
