2016-17 Imports Dragon NHL Figures bring hockey’s best and brightest into your home
Back for a second season, 2016-17 Imports Dragon NHL Figures are headed to store shelves with a strong lineup of players that can be set up and displayed in the comfort of your home.
With the added bonus of a printed autograph on the base of some figures, there is also a collector-friendly feature in the form of production numbers being listed as well. Available from most major retailers in Canada and also seeing distribution in the United States, there are at least two waves of 6″ figures expected this season.
The first wave of 6″ 2016-17 Imports Dragon NHL Figures can be found in stores in time for the holiday season and are focused primarily on Canadian teams. Debuting in the line are Vancouver’s Bo Horvat, Calgary’s Sean Monahan, and Toronto Maple Leafs rookie sensation William Nylander. Shea Weber, who has been a force for the Montreal Canadiens after coming over in a trade with the Nashville Predators gets a figure in his new sweater. Naturally, sophomore sensation Connor McDavid and former Vezina Trophy winner Carey Price get figures as well, but Winnipeg Jets fans also get to track down a local favorite in Dustin Byfuglien. Finally, the Chicago Blackhawks are represented by Jonathan Toews and Corey Crawford while Sidney Crosby gets a new figure as well.
Most of the figures are expected to release on December 9, but the Nylander figure is scheduled to arrive on December 17.
Collectors can also expect to see variations and exclusives added to the lineup of 2016-17 Imports Dragon NHL Figures. Mostly themed around big NHL events where they should initially become available, the first to hit is of Byfuglien in the retro-style Winnipeg Jets jersey from the Heritage Classic and was limited to 1,000 copies. Also coming are Dylan Larkin of the Detroit Red Wings for the 2017 Centennial Classic, and Pittsburgh’s Kris Letang in time for the Stadium Series.
There will also be two-packs made for the 2017 NHL All-Star which feature Los Angeles Kings stars Anze Kopitar and Jonathan Quick, plus a set for the Winter Classic in St. Louis that has foes Corey Crawford and Vladimir Tarasenko. Other variations scheduled for release include a Trophy Edition for Alex Ovechkin and a Rookie of the Year figure of Artemi Panarin.
As reported on previously, there are two-packs of 2016-17 Imports Dragon NHL Figures which combine both the 6″ and 2.5″ formats. While Crawford, Sidney Crosby, and Jonathan Toews are exclusive to Clark Toys, the lineup has been augmented by Carey Price, Connor McDavid, Byfuglien, Rielly, and Weber.
The second wave of 6″ 2016-17 Imports Dragon NHL Figures are slated for early 2017 and will consist of at least eight different players. The roster is focused more on the American market with names like Ovechkin, Quick, Kopitar, Larkin, Letang, and Panarin along with Boston’s Patrice Bergeron and P.K. Subban of the Nashville Predators. It should be noted that a representative from the company has confirmed that Taylor Hall will not be a part of this series, despite appearing on some checklists.
In the coming weeks, more information will become available regarding the players coming in the 2.5″ format. While usually sold in blind packaging, they have additional play value through both a physical game and an app that will be unveiled soon after release. When a collector opens their blind pack, there will be a code that can be entered into the app which allows them to use their figures in competition.
