Still digging through my January’s worth of e-mail …

Upper Deck announced last week that it will be including a subset of Historic Firsts in 2009 Series 1 Baseball — a 10-card set that will include additional cards of President Barack Obama as well as Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

“Despite the country’s economic woes, the past year included an incredible amount of unique firsts,” said Kerri Stockholm, Upper Deck’s director of Sports Marketing. “So in an effort to help restore enthusiasm and hope across this great land of ours, Upper Deck decided to acknowledge many of these noteworthy achievements by way of this special card set. And with President Obama’s moving inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, the timing couldn’t be better.”

The Firsts will be found one in every six packs of Series 1, which arrives on Feb. 3. Other cards will include the first woman to be promoted to U.S. four-star general, (the Army’s Ann E. Dunwoody) and the first privately developed space launch  (SpaceX Falcon 1).  For sports firsts, the first NHL Winter Classic, the first Asian-American MLB manager (Don Wakamatsu), and the first Indian players to sign MLB contracts (Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel) are included.

Also receiving a card is and the first collector to complete Upper Deck’s Yankee Stadium Legacy Set — Arkansas collector Tommy Baxter.
