2003-04 Exquisite LeBron James Autograph Patch Parallel Sells for Over $270,000
It was a big night for modern basketball cards at Goldin Auctions’ 2019 October Legends sale, particularly for some key cards from 2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection. Three cards from the landmark release topped $100,000 and three more cards from the set going for more than $40,000. Leading the way? A 2003-04 Exquisite Collection Rookie Patch Parallel numbered to 23, which closed at $270,600 including buyers premium.
Graded BGS 8.5 NM-MT+, the card, which parallels James’ top Rookie Card, is serial numbered 16/23. It has an on-card autograph, which received a grade of 10, and a three-color swatch.
The 2003-04 Exquisite Collection Rookie Patch Parallel LeBron James led all items in the Goldin Auctions sale. A PSA 10 1956 Topps Roberto Clemente Gray Back was next at $247, 230. A game-used high school jersey James is also wearing on his first Sports Illustrated cover went for $192,000.
A pair of 2003-04 Exquisite Collection Number Pieces autographs were the other two cards from the product reaching six figures. A LeBron James, graded BGS 8.5 and numbered 02/23, finished at $118,080 while a BGS 9 Michael Jordan (02/23) sold for $105,780.
Keeping with the 2003-04 Exquisite Basketball theme, the following three cards all closed at $40,590:
- Limited Logos Michael Jordan (16/75) BGS 8.5/10
- Scripted Swatches Michael Jordan (02/25) BGS 9.5/9
- Triple Patch LeBron James (03/10) BGS 9
It will be interesting to see if this results in a positive turn for his other scarce cards.
I have not seen the Finite First Class RC /50 available for a couple of years now, even though the regular /200 has risen quite a bit and pops up frequently.
