1982 O-Pee-Chee Baseball Checklist, Team Set Lists and Details

Share:

1982 O-Pee-Chee Baseball is only half the size of its American counterpart at Topps. But by OPC standards, 396 cards was as big as it got at that point. As usual, the design maintains the same framework as Topps. And while many of the big cards are the same, O-Pee-Chee misses out on the year’s biggest RC.

1982 O-Pee-Chee Baseball Box

The 1982 design is tough to forget, primarily for the double hockey stick-looking stripe down the side. Other elements like the white borders, large bottom nameplate and facsimile signature carryover from Topps.

1982 O-Pee-Chee Baseball Nolan Ryan

It’s easy to tell the Canadian cards apart on both sides. Yes, there’s the bilingual text. The OPC logo is on the front and it’s noted above the card number on the back. A little trickier, but the fronts of 1982 O-Pee-Chee Baseball cards are brighter than Topps.

As usual, Canada’s two MLB teams — the Toronto Blue Jays and Montreal Expos — get the most love on the checklist. Besides a higher number of regular veteran cards than other teams, they’re the only two teams with multi-player Rookie Stars and team leaders cards.

A pair of subsets covering other teams are in 1982 OPC, though, All-Stars and In Action.

With just the two Rookie Stars, that means that there’s no Cal Ripken Jr. RC in 1982 O-Pee-Chee Baseball. Outside of Ripken, there aren’t any other major star rookies in 1982 sets. Top RCs here include George Bell (who is listed as ‘Jorge’, like other 1982 cards) and Tim Wallach.

Every pack of 1982 O-Pee-Chee Baseball comes with one of 24 different foldout posters. The checklist for these is split evenly between Expos and Blue Jays. 1982 Topps Baseball doesn’t have anything comparable.
