2023 has its biggest sale to date — a 1916 M101-4 Sporting News Babe Ruth RC graded by SGC as a NM 7. The card sold for $1,777,000 (with buyer’s premium) in Heritage Auctions’ 2023 Winter Platinum Sports Auction that closed early Monday, Feb. 27.

According to Heritage, it’s the highest amount ever paid for an SGC-graded Ruth Rookie Card.

In addition to the sale, another early Ruth item sold for nearly a half-million dollars in the same auction. A rookie-era photo of a young Bambino as a pitcher with the Red Sox sold for $468,000 – a new record for a PSA/DNA Type I photo of Ruth.
