This 48-card standard-size set, sponsored by Gillette, featured players from the old four divisions of the NHL: Smythe (1-10), Norris (11-20), Adams (21-30), and Patrick (31-40). Each ten-card pack came with a trivia card and a checklist card. To receive one ten-card pack, collectors were required to send to Gillette of Canada one UPC symbol from any Canadian Gillette product, the dated receipt with purchase price circled, and 2.00 for shipping and handling. The entire set could be obtained by sending in three UPC symbols plus 5.00. Reportedly just 30,000 sets were produced, and the offer expired on August 28, 1992. On a black card face, the fronts carried a color action photo enclosed by a gold border. The title "Gillette Series" appeard in gold lettering at the top, while the player's name appeard at the bottom between the 75th NHL Anniversary logo and the team logo. Some of the cards had the words "Rookie Card" in the bottom gold border (numbers 3, 10, 20, 30, 40). In a horizontal format, the backs had biography and statistics (1987-91) in English and French, as well as a color head shot. The player cards were numbered on the back. Although the backs of the four unnumbered checklist cards were identical (each one lists all 40 cards), a different division name appeard on the front of each checklist card: Smythe, Norris, Adams, and Patrick. The fronts of each of the four unnumbered trivia card were identical, while their backs featured two different questions and answers. [Collapse]
