The 1976-77 O-Pee-Chee NHL set consisted of 396 color standard-size cards. Printed in Canada, the cards contained both the O-Pee-Chee and the NHL Players Association copyright. The wax packs issued contained eight cards in ten-cent packs along with a bubble-gum slab. Several Record Breaker (RB) cards featured achievements from the previous season. Team cards (132-149) had a team checklist on the back. Bilingual backs contained the player's statistics from the 1975-76 season, career numbers, a short biography and a cartoon-illustrated fact about the player. Cards that featured California players in the 1976-77 Topps set had been updated in this set to show them with the Cleveland Barons. One of those was card 176 Gary Simmons. There are reportedly three variations of the Simmons card. In addition to the basic card, one version had "Team transferred to Colorado" on front. This is an error in itself because the Barons disbanded with players going to Minnesota. The other version had the text shaded or airbrushed out.
