Beckett Baseball: Ask the editor

Beckett Baseball: Ask the editor
Roger Rabbit Wrote:I posted this elsewhere, but nobody seemed to know anything, so perhaps you can help. My question is about 2009-10 UD USA Baseball.
After buying a case of this stuff, and pulling the big name base autos, I decided to build this auto set. I've now got all of the cards listed other than cards #86 Tony Wolters and #107 Nicky Delmonico. I've seen a red auto variation of the Wolters, but haven't been able to find the base blue auto cards anywhere.
As Wolters is the only card listed with an NA in the OPG, I'm wondering if the regular blue auto of this card was ever made. I'm also confused by the numbering in this set. First of all, there is no card #60. Cards #61-82 then follow in order, and are the autos of the National Team in the same order as they appear in the base set, which makes perfect sense.
Card #83, the Bryce Harper auto, starts the Under 18 team, which is fully represented except for one player it seems, Kavin Keyes, along with the MIA Tony Wolters and Nicky Delmonico cards. But the numbering skips a whole whack of numbers, which means the Under 18 autos run from card #83 to card #116, even though there are only 18 or 19 cards within that range. The Under 16 patch cards complete the set, running cards #119-136, and are complete and in order, except there is no card #131. There's no player missing, there's just no card #131.
Am I ever going to find the Wolters (I'd like to as he was drafted by my team, the Indians) and Delmonico? What happened to Kavin Keyes that he didn't get an auto? Why no card #60? Why skip all over the place for the Under 18 autos? Any info on any of this craziness would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, here's hoping a bunch of these guys make it huge, as it's a sizeable auto set! Cheers.

Generally speaking there's a lot about USA stuff that goes unnoticed between the prelim checklist and then the final distribution. Again, "things happen" for the card companies -- and that set has a lot of autographs/signers so stuff can go wrong/change more easily.

If we have an N/A, we haven't seen any/enough sales to track it. It's highly likely that a player just didn't sign that color or the cards didn't get distributed -- damage, missed signing so only signed other colors, etc. -- if a card is not found.

Card No. 60 in the base set was not produced, per a USA Baseball official. You can presume that the missing player elsewhere might be that one, too. (I haven't examined the checklist as closely as you have.)

Keep hunting and collecting the stuff, but don't let the ones you can't find drive you crazy. But if/when you do find them, it will be satisfying.

I know from my past USA buys that the collation on these sets could be rough, too -- I pulled a couple of lineup autograph cards out of like three sets one time and then did the same with a tougher multi-auto card.

Something that has been puzzling me for some time now (pun intended). I can't seem to find any listings for the Donruss Puzzle card you know the three pieces on a standard size card. I also have some of the puzzle cards, I know that the cards are part of the sets but what about the standard size cards that are die cut into a puzzle? This brings up my next point. In the Super Diamond Kings Sets some of the listings are missing for some of the cards. 1985 DK Super is missing the listing for the Lou Gehrig Large Puzzle. The 1988 Donruss Super Diamond King set is missing the listing for card #27, the Checklist, and for the Stan Musial Large Puzzle Card. Finally in the 1989 Super Diamond King Set there has no listing for NNO checklist card, or the Warren Spahn Large Puzzle Card. The 1986 and 1987 list all of these cards and include the large puzzle cards as well as the checklist cards.$0$0$0$0Ray$0$0ktcardshop$0$0$0$0

Try your search again using just the card number and his name ... see if it comes up then. There's a chance it's listed but doesn't come up right on searches.

If not, send a scan and info to bfleischer@beckett.com and it should be added.

Found the card thanks for the tip Chris

how does one search and/or find all of another trader's wants?  i cannot seem to figure out how to do it either from their collections site (it only pulls up haves and wants, and does not seem to differentiate between them), or from within the trades site (i.e. the best i can do there is search my collection, and sometimes i get lucky and the other person seems to want the card and that fact is noted at top of search results, but its obviously hit and miss).

i can also search wants for particular cards, but that pulls up everybody who wants card.

is there a way to get a listing of all of a specific trader's wants (sometimes, i like to include other cards in a trade that matches another trader's wants, but i cannot figure out how to search for/through them in isolation)?  i am sure there is a way, but i am just too thick to figure it out.

thanks!

I have another one for you. You list the 1988 Donruss Puzzle & Cards Team Collection. It is a 9 X 11 1/2" Booklet flat stapled w/Metallic blue binding tape. There are five books, One each for the Oakland A's, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, and the New York Yankees. Each book consists of a front cover, Three pages of reproduction cards, 9 to a page, A 6 1/2 X 8 7/8 large Stan Musial Puzzle, and a back cover with a stadium photo and a team history with a team logo on the back cover. This booklet was meant to be kept together and yet you list it as 27 individual cards with no mention of the puzzle or the front and back cover.

Chris,
Is there any way to validate a BCCG graded card?
Looks like only the BGS and BVG are options.

Can you tell me anything about a set of cards produced in the late 80's or early 90's that was not sanctioned by MLB? They featured high quality photography of the player, usually against a backdrop of the city or ballpark. I'm trying to find the photographers name the availability of these cards.

Thanks,

I have several questions.

1. I sent some comic cards to Beckett to be graded, the problem is I can not find them listed on the Beckett web site, there for I can not put them in my Org.

2. I sent Beckett several emails about cards I could not add to my Org. I keep getting an error message that says invaled serial #. No one has contacted me, could you please pass this on to the right person so I can get the 15 cards logged into my Org.

thank you
